I've wondered the same thing. I've seen how Kevlar and steel toed boots will dull a chain and not allow it to cut. There is a vid of that somewhere. But chaps?
The Kevlar doesn't dull it they are long strands when the saw cuts through the shell and hits the Kevlar it will pull strands and it clogs the clutch and stop the motor in about a second. I mean stall the motor and shut it off.

I'd be into making a video however I cut wood at 4000' in the Cascades of WA and I won't be able to get in there until May.

I am pretty much the poster boy for unsafe operation...only one of my saws has a chain brake, I don't own chaps or a hard had...rarely wear glasses...have been known to cut in shorts on occasion...regularly cut in sneakers...I don't even know what hearing protection is...

Yep, sounds like I need to watch a video rather than make one haha.

You have to start somewhere. I grew up and had no idea about any safety equipment. If a saw had a chainbrake dad would take it off.

So here is a video of where I started
Shorts flip flops and look at my thumb
