My first 10-10. Ran a tank through it yesterday in some 14~16 inch maple. Now that was some fun.

Got it free from a guy years ago when I just started to think I knew how to work on a saw. He brought me three of em and said if I got one running for him I could have the other two. One was a nasty parts carcass, but this one and the other one were in real nice shape. Both had broken starter ropes and sprung springs from someone else's attempt to fix em. Had no idea what else may be wrong with either one, let alone what to do about it. As it turned out, nothing. (Lucky for me!)

Spent the better part of an afternoon on the first one. Wound the damned spring backwards three or four times before I figured that out. Ended up just putting the handle on what was left of the rope since I couldn't figure out the nail in the hub thing...., probably 'bout 18 inches o' rope. Got it all back together enough to try starting it and it popped on choke after a few pulls and then fired right up. Scared the piss outta me 'cause it was so loud and I thought something was wrong with it. I immediately shut it back down wonderin' "what was that?" LOL

Here's my latest one. Picked it up a few months ago for $25 from a CL ad. Coincidentally, broken starter rope and sprung recoil spring. Had this one running in about twenty minutes.

Have a dozen or so of the 10 series..., mostly the more common ones, but a few PM700's and my first real "project Mac" that I got several years ago which was an SP81 with a busted crank keyway. Got to it this past winter and really enjoyed the rebuild experience (along with the PM8200) and finally getting my feet wet with the Macs.

Did a rattle can refresh on it that turned out way better than I thought it would. Sorta wish I woulda clear coated it now, but it's gonna get run instead of sitting on a shelf and needs a few new dings for 'character' anyway. I did spring for Joe Salva to do a decal for me that I just got the other day. Not exactly accurate, but close enuff for me and will still be a nice finishing touch when I get time to put it on. (It's just sitting there for the pic.) Still have an ignition issue I need to nail down, but this thing has wicked compression and is gonna flat out cut. There's a build thread in the Mac sticky on AS. Would hafta dig a bit to find it, but started back in January or February if I remember right. I had a ton of help, so there's some good info there for anyone interested. And yeah, that's another 10-10 on the tray and in the box in front of the SP81.

I really enjoy working on these saws and have a whole new level of respect for em after building a couple and running them more seriously than just as a novelty..., not to mention after watching Buckin' Billy Ray buck a 4ft. maple with a 10-10 and a 28" bar on YouTube. LOL Yeah, I'll probably always have one o' these in some stage or another of rebuild just for the fun of it.

Seriously overlooked and underrated bad ass little saws even by today's standards..., if ya don't mind a little ear bleedin' and tooth rattlin' while the chips fly. :D

With the comments of rewinding the recoil springs I might add the right hand start models are the worst of any saw I ever worked on .Why they ever had the idea to do that backassward thing is beyond me .
I snatched the cranks from two old right hand start 10-10s for the 6-10 before I realized it was a screwed flywheel that was destroying the crankshafts .Changed the flywheel then, duh .I think I have two intact right start 10-10s left

Another 10-10 story from the past .about 35-40 years ago .My dad and I both ran Mac PM 610's cutting firewood .My brother in law was bound and determined he could come up with something to out run us,aha aviation gas with 15 percent nitromethane .Damned would it scoot--for about 20 minutes until the piston flew apart like a dollar watch .I have that saw now and pieces of the piston .His grand plan was only partially successful .
Sometime later he was successful, over 400 bucks and one 042 Stihl he got the job done .Partly ,he could out gun me but not the old man .I also have my dads PM 610 .I never knew how he did it and I probably never will .Out of respect I'll let him keep that secret .

Nice SP81, Poge!

During the past year, my collection of 82cc Macs has rounded out nicely. I now have the Double Eagle 80, PM800, PM805, PM850, PM8200, SP80 and SP81. There's still a couple of models out there that have eluded me to this point .... the SP81E and PM850 Super.

The SP variants are my faves, as they are the most compact.

Hmmmm
Makin me want one of these.

Yes J, you should get one.

If'n I cross paths with one, I'll keep you in mind.

Nice SP81, Poge!

Thank you, sir.

Sounds like your lineup is rounding out nicely. I've scrounged quite a variety myself over the years..., mostly large frame projects aside from all the 10 series. About my only realistic MAC want these days is a PM850. I'll probably never see a 797 or 125 anywhere near me, (or that I could afford anyway), so why even yearn, eh? I've only seen two PM850's within a 100 or so miles of me for that matter and they went quick. Otherwise I'm still always interested in the 10 series saws when they pop up. A 6-10 would be kinda cool and I don't have a 7-10 yet, either.

As for the points/chip thing, my SP81 was chipped when I got it. Went back to points to stay original. Something isn't quite right though..., like the timing is way advanced maybe. Wants to yank the rope outta your hand when it fires and doesn't want to rev much past 3~4K. I put it on the shelf for a rainy day while I was waiting on my sticker from Joe. Figured if I got it runnin' real good first I'd bang it all up usin' it before I could get some "finished" pics with the sticker. LOL Someone suggested I may actually have a newer electronic coil on it screwing up the timing by using it with the points setup. Easy enough to test. Disconnect the points. Just haven't done it yet.

Have a couple RH start 10-10's. Two are pretty rough. This one is kinda nice with the Mac-10 bar like RocketRoss's.

Regarding the points type, from my observation you can't go much over 30 degrees advance .If it will fire much above that it will be way too early .Usually if the points are set that wide they won't fire at all because the cam notch is not deep enough for the points to close .If it does fire will try to jerk your arm put of the socket and still not start .
Stock points gap is 18 thou for 26 degree stock advance .It's a bit tricky trying to find a happy medium trying to maverick the points for a slight advancement in timing .

Well I dragged out all my 10 series to see what I have and there was a couple of "I dont remember buying that" cad moments. The only one I paid more that $100 for is the 10-10s which looks like it hasn't done a lot of work. So I've got.
2-10
2-10 super
10-10 -old one with no chainbreak
10-10 with chainbreak
10-10s
pro mac 700
super pro 70
pro mac 810
two parts saws

And as a bonus a super 250.

Plan is to keep these and use them for firewood and sell all the stihls and huskies I fix up because the macs are cheap and reliable . The super 250 was $50 and started third pull after sitting on the shelf at a scrap dealers for a couple of years, it rattles the windows when you start it up.
