Have a 288 being ported at the moment, what bar lengths do you recommend, I like 3/8 full comp

I run 24" on my 281 and 288.
Goes well in Aussie hardwood.

Who's doing the port work? I'd say a 24", 28" or a 32" would be doable on a ported 288!

Lol. Almost everything here has wraps.

Over here in Australia wraps are rare, Ive got a couple of old Pioneers and Macs with them, we just dont get them over here with the newer saws.

About the clutch rubbing, are you using both the inner and outer bar plates?

I also don't see one listed but one off a 61-272 should fit and push your clutch cover a little farther from the clutch.

Outers were on early 2 series saws and eventually we're eliminated from latter versions. So not a big deal not to run an outer as long as you have the plastic chain bumpers on the clutch cover.

Built with a used 281 flywheel side case and a new old stock 181 clutch side case.
Ive had a few early 181 new old stock cases laying around not knowing what to do with them. I didn't want to build a small bearing flywheel side saw.

I've ran a mountain of 281, 288 saws in my life. I prefer the 281 for a couple reasons. To me the lighter weight 52mm piston has less vibrations, and the power curve is very flat, even though it doesn't peak as high as a ks288 jug. User friendly torque. A few 288's ran real well, one was a non decom mahle and the other was the ks jug. Never liked the newer mahle decom jugs that came stock on later 288xp lites
