Dang, my prices aren’t that bad. 84dl chain costs me $24. Feel bad for you Strayans...y’all get screwed.

Yes we do get screwed but im not complaining, that 1 chain on the 281 has just cut $560 worth of firewood before its first sharpen.

Ks or mahle, which is better
I have no idea but I have a new production KS on my 288 and it runs much stronger than an old production Mahle my brother and I messed with a while back. Maybe a fluke but who knows. Lots of guys with more experience than me regarding differences in cylinder brands, hopefully they’ll chime in.

Any body have a starter side or entire set of cases 288 -281-181, with everything good, like all the screw holes and stuff.
I have a 288 case that is busted out by the oil fill hole and it leaks bad. Havent posted anywhere else.

Need a little help with a 181 guys. I have been piecing tis together for a while. I have a couple of little issues. I can't seem to get it run. It will fire and pop on choke, open the choke and it will fire again but won't run, can't get hand to the throttle fast enough. #2 the end of the clutch nut is rubbing a new OEM clutch cover. The 3rd question I have is the oil pump as several dust shields and was wondering if I pull the one off the oil pump, can I run a later model 281/288 worm gear.

I've taken a grinder to the nut part of a clutch before to get it to stop rubbing.

The oil pump gear is different I recall. You have to use the right set up. I have a early 281, probably the same as yours, use different oil pump set up than the later one. Later ones share the same worn gear with 395xp.

About the clutch rubbing, are you using both the inner and outer bar plates?

Does the 181 have a throttle lock like 281/288?

Have a 288 being ported at the moment, what bar lengths do you recommend, I like 3/8 full comp
I think it would depend on how it's being ported and the type of wood your cutting. I don't have a lot of experience with the 288 but the one I ported, just learning to port, pulled a 30" bar easy and had me wishing that I had purchased a longer bar.
