I counted 6 crankcases on the shelf yesterday that uses the crank like the 371 in the poulans. 4 of the 6 big ends out. 2 of them in my fav 445s. 2 of 3 of those out.

I blame it on 50:1 BS still as husky had a memo years back to go to 40:1.

The problem is that federal law says they can ONLY specifiy 50:1 or worse ratios to customers and dealers.
I posted the pre-OSHA/EPA owners manual and the post- government-agency-meddling manual for the same saw and the ratio changed from 32:1 to 50:1 and it says plainly the ratio changed to comply with US law.
Sad really, unless you rebuild 2 cycles for a living.

The regulation meant to save the environment by limiting pollution instead causes more by causing folks to swap out to parts made with no regulations in a land of little to no restraint as regards pollution before sending the parts around the world on polluting conveyances.

I love it when a plan comes together.....

Junkman has been using a Raisman Platt in a milling saw for a couple years. I think it's still running

Its been in there a few years now ,Wish i would have had my tach on it back then to keep track of the hours .it has way more hours on it than the oem one did when it snapped off at the clutch though .I got a raisman muffler also it was very nice quality also .Thick metal like oem ,not tinny like the ebay ones .

Edit ,they seem to carry most pro saw cranks ,and top ends on another page

I've had good luck with raisman Platte
Parts but haven't used a crank.

My last 880 was extremely low hour, bucking some big logs on the landing and set it on the ground to mark a few more logs,it was idling and broke the crank right beside the big end bearing.
400$ for the crank only.
Oem was the only option for it.

Anyone else ever press out the old crank bearing?

Done it a few times, usually need to replace the crank pin aswell though.

Pressing and alignment are simple. Locating a Correct big end bearing and crank pin is the hard part.

If I had a big press I'd sure try it. There's a couple things I want to try out.

Mike, it doesn't take a big press. A little hf one would work. I did my 400 Polaris crank in my 20t with no effort at all. You could press apart a chainsaw crank in a big vice I bet.

I found an old video...

And this is the old parts pile.

Most of the time I prefer to wait for a part saw, but some models just look to have weak cranks.

Last weeks I've got many 550 who had blown con rod bearing, plan to ship one of them to a company who do this sort work in Norway and see how it turn out to be, I hope to go up in bearing quality when I'm first doing this.

I may try to press one apart. I have several bad 460 and some 365 ones.
I rather go for one rebuild OEM crank instead of one AM, special if you can pick the bearing quality, and even better if you can do the job yourself also Mike
40-80$ pr crank is the prices I got in Norway, depend how complicated it is compared to other cranks.
Company I found did scooters, snowmobile etc

I'll check around. I know getting a 3120 crank stroked is around $500
