thats solid advice. a guy ought to get a visual before any commitments are made...
There IS a difference between a stripper that can take chrome off a trailer hitch and one that can safely remove paint from plastics

I was able to get some flashlight video tonight of the 394 idling. I found a good used WJ-39 in an old box of stuff and went through it, and it decided to make a runner.

Compression isn't the greatest (probably around 155-160psi) due to the large squish but I have some other ideas about that. Acceleration is great, probably due to the large intake and exhaust.

Sounds very nice!

Shaun's case repair helped this saw out a lot - and with new bearings, seals gaskets, and fuel system, it should be a runner for a long time.

I fortified the intake block where it mounts to the cylinder with a little Loctite 518 as well.

Looks great JJ.

The Husky sounds better, but them old MAC’s just make me moist.

Them old Macs are great saws Al, this 125 is not the fastest but of course a guy could put a 60" bar and chain on it and it would run about the same speed.

The 394 is doing good. The lack of compression in the wood is noticeable and like most guys here, I'm used to saws blowing 180-200 psi. Shaun and
I were discussing the timing numbers and he thought it would be a good short bar saw as-is. I'm going to run it with a 36" bar in some bigger wood
later this weekend to see how it does.

And compare that to a big old pig of a McCulloch:

My Dad had one of those Mac when I was a real small squirt. Every few months he used to rebuild it in the basement when he was on speed and worked at Cat, logged at night skidded with a Allis Chalmer wd45 and only slept on the bus. He'd get it put together and fire it up down there. Dad's bench was right under my bed. I was the only kid that actually had a monster under my bed.

One time he poured the gas out in a styrofoam cup and it melted then the water heater caught the house on fire...winter'73. I remember the firefighters havin a snowball fight in the front yard next morning with the house still smoldering. Mom was madder than hell but those were the days.

Well, I think I'm calling this one good, guys. It runs fine and feels good in the wood. It's not as strong as it could be but it's a good saw as-is.

It's also got some cool history for Dave - it was ported by a legend @KDHotsaws, has a Saw-King muffler, an @srcarr52 case repair, and was assembled by me.

I'd cut timber with it as-is.
