Really never put that much thought into it. Any time I pick up any saw, it will tell me how much dogging in it likes. And it changes from one log/species/etc to the next. Just a matter of feeling it out. Big dogs, small dogs, doesn't matter, saw will tell you how much it wants to eat

I agree, that’s why I run them myself. The stock 372 ones are too dam small but the west coast was are a little too big. Wish that had some in between. Like you said you just learn how much pressure and proper chain bite and they’ll work fine
They need 7900 3 point sized dogs those are about perfect. 372 large dogs are about perfect on a 390. A bit too much for a 372 in hardwood making felling cuts if it has a good chain. Bucking logs and cutting cookies like most on here it doesn’t matter.

Leverage. Simple as that
So, feel it out. Less effort required of the operator, might be a good thing. ;)

I like bigger dogs on my bigger saws because they actually increase maneuverability when levering the dogs on more gangly stuff. Large hard maple comes to mind.

To each there own, just explaining why the factory puts smaller dogs on all east coast saws and large ones on west coast saws.

$30 for the wrap kit. Individual prices for the handle and side cover are expensive. This would be the best way to buy side covers even if I threw the rest of the kit away. :)

Yeah, there's an "update" on the ship date. Not going to say a word til I see the order go "out for pick". ;)

They came out with some kind of deal that doesn't include orders already in the system, so I went and ordered more of these things today. Think I've got over 100 of them coming now, but with different orders/ ship dates.

Bet you don't have a lick of trouble moving all of them! Damn fine saws.

Bob is exactly right, West Coast saws generally have longer bars, square file chain, and cut larger, but softer trees.

Not making this up...……………and timing is everything, ain't it?

Guy I sold my 572 "UK" to calls while I'm eating lunch. Says he wanted to call and give me an update on the saw. Not sure about the tone of his voice, and we're not above a little ball busting either.

So I'm thinking NFW. These things are just about to ship and now we're going to hear there's something freaking wrong with them? He's a friend as much as a customer, but he pulls no punches when he critiques saws. He's been at it a long time and was brutal on the early 562's.

So he loves the saw. Essentially said it's the best saw he's ever owned. Always starts on one pull, hot or cold. Says it feels like it has 390 power. Runs as long on a tank as the 562. He cut all morning on just 3 tanks. His guys still running 372's are always walking around looking for their fuel cans. Told me to go ahead and push them cause it does everything it's supposed to and the guys will love them. Then he's, "I don't know why it took the so effen long to get it right! But put me down for a G model when you get them."

That is great news Bob!

Are you going to NY GTG? I still have not had the chance to run one of these (although my client last night was very happy to show me the used 390 he fixed).

I'll be there for sure Mike. Guess I'll need to crack open another 572 when they get here. Or get his for the weekend, cause a new not broken in 572 isn't going to impress anyone. That saw was a slug on the first couple tanks. But by then there should be plenty of 572's out and about. Truth is I was more of the mind to go and just hang out and visit. Neither bring or run any saws. :)

Bob, looking forward to seeing you any which way, but I also love to run the saws. Guess I just don't get to do it as much as you do!

Too bad they don't still do the one in Middletown, we got to talk a good bit after that one! (I have tried to encourage him to do it again, but...).

If you ever get to see the structure his Dad and Grandfather built from their milled logs, you would die! All mortis and tenon, custom arch ways, custom stairs, different wood floors in every room … an absolute masterpiece!

Well hard as it is to believe, saws have begun to ship. :ARMS1:

572XPG' s should be here tomorrow morning; FedEx. No movement on the regular saws, but they are supposed to ship tomorrow. Lot more of those, so they will have to go common carrier. Not sure why they split these up, but at least things are happening.
