Thing is I bought this as a project saw. Just didn’t realise the extent of the damage when I got it. But alas if I need a new p and c I will get one. But over here in the UK they are around $260US which is 1 1/2 what I bought the complete saw for. I am hoping Onan can help me out. Just gotta find the money for it.

The only thing I can figure on them prices, is they updated the P/C kits over time.
And want all the older ones gone. So any that have to be replaced completely will be.
Because they priced the piston stupid high.

Did what many would consider a quick and dirty to see if I can get this saw running to actually make sure there are no other biggies before I shell out for a new P&C kit (which might have to be a Christmas present to myself).

I managed to removed neatly-ish enough off of the piston crown and a bit in the cylinder to get a .025 squish without a gasket.

I know there are still a fair few dinks but this is just so I can see if it will actually run and that is all..

I think it will run and probs run quite nicely with the improved squish

Adamski did u ever find what found its way through? Crank rotating freely? No play on either side?
Well we may have diagnosed that with it being sent with a new plug and the shape and the length of the dinks, it looks like the ground of the spark plug probably bent/snapped off, whether someone was fiddling with the spark gap a bit too much or if the plug just failed is another question.. All roller pins are there, bottom end looks pristine too.. I'll run it and see.

It is a flexible sealant that comes out pretty runny and dries a bit but is non setting. I find it good to use between two decent surfaces. i.e case to cylinder etc.

And here it is.. a crap video of nothing other than the fact that it starts and has some good compression through the cord yes o yes. Removed the spark screen and drilled the same size exit port on the baffle just under the screen the other side of the baffle to the first one. It starts, now I just need some damn daylight to test it out.

Seeing as it is like night time all the time here and I won’t be able to run the saw till Saturday someone chime in with what this compares to that I have in the same ish sizes.. a 254xp, 357xp or a little wee 346oe. So I hear they are stronger than a 346??!

I've read many threads on 550 vs 346. I think they're close enough to call even if ported. I'd never change that piston. No chance that mfer run forever like that. Long as you cleaned the ring land up real nice like
