It reminds me of an overengineered for no good reason sort of thing that a German would create just because he could.

Everything is compared to a 200t, they seem to fall apart and go back together on their own. I think the 540 is mostly just different, not really that bad.
True.
#1 because it is the standard to which all top handles must bow.
#2 it takes a xhit ton of abuse before they NEED to come apart.
#3 they will have earned their weight in gold before #2 occurs.
I might have it confused with the 543xp?It's Ozzie spec, has x-torq and auto tune written on the recoil cover, blue and red wires around carb. Haven't started on it yet but soon

Fantastic info, thanks ladsI wonder whether the AT carb has an adjustment screw under a Welch plug like the 550xp does? To kinda give a lil L-speed adjustment.
It does...
It has only a very minor effect in my experience, but valuable in getting the tune "just right".It does...
Cheers Jeremy, read about them before, this should have been sorted by the dealer but not sure what the deal is as it's been back several times, all I know is the boss bought it new as it was cheap as chips and he can't be arsed sending it back again and again. Though it hasn't been used much, its spent a fair bit of time in a toolbox with other saws so looks pretty tatty but mechanically it's honestly done nothingIf anything like the track record of a 550, you may have a bad o-ring Andy.

It is. Check the impulse line it is on the fuel cape side. Hard to see but have seen them half pulled off, pinched, ECT. They are a bear to strip but almost easier to do a pressure vac test.I've never worked on one but i've heard its a real PITA .
