The big clutch cover from 462 /500i will fit perfectly. But the dogs won’t line up. The outer dogs from the normal 064/044 set are about 6mm more advanced then the inner one. So I cut the spikes shorter about this amount. I have to drill a fitting hole in the inner dog for the chain catcher.

the muffler is a open can.
I like how u can mod the muffler outlet under the deflector. U don’t need a second one.
The exhaust has a pipe that goes into the cylinder.
And the cylinder has a step in the exhaust port. See the pics.

Handling with 28 lightweight bar is fine. Only a little bit nose heavy.

Don't know what to think about this and the pipe going into the cylinder.
Some of the smaller Poulans were almost there, they had an insert that went into the cylinder that could be taken out, but the insert was not connected to the muffler. I see the plus and minus of this. Plus = more seamless transition from cylinder to muffler, unlike having to line up a heat shield, gasket and muffler. Minus = seam farther in for carbon to start sticking too and building up. Adding a different muffler will need the insert or some way to jimmy-rig the connection between the cylinder and the muffler.

Won't be a minute before that pipe and step get deleted with a muffler mod. Probably already happening.

Dolmar has introduced such a "portliner" in some of their saws, citing Kubota as a prior art.

So the saw makes the first 2 1/2 tanks empty. I ve cut some big softwood (salix alba I think). Full chisel Stihl RS 28” bar.
I was amazed at how well the saw performed with this combination. I was a little worried at first that it would be too weak for this. It was only soft wood, but the saw will definitely become even stronger after the break-in period.

Muffler got very nice colors after the first real heat cycle:)

Isn’t this new 400 supposed to be a weak piece of junk ?
