394 cylinder is NLA... so if you want a NEW cylinder, that Dall pointed to, its $139 shipped plus $60 for the intake kit. PLUS you need to figure out an impulse for the carb, which means you either swap the carb (with me :) ) OR you mod the carb I think.

This is assuming you can use everything else that is on the saw. I'll humbly dissagree with that. But, if you are $250 into parts, plus $139 P&C plus $60 ... new gasket kit, seals, whatever else.... you're still $500 easy into a saw that is falling apart otherwise.

I LOVE these saws... so in the end I think building these saws is great. But if you are concerned about the $$... this one's gonna set ya back more than $500 I think.
for the impulse the kit has a nipple in it and you take top of carb off drill a 7/32 hole in carb cover

AH, that is included in the kit... gotcha.

seriously though, I have 395 carbs... AND I have an extra 372xt carb that'll work. I can trade straight up for the wj39? stock 394 carb if you are gonna make the switch

Yall make this *s-word sound way fugging harder than it is. This saw is worth building for sure. Buy a good used 394 cylinder, new piston or do the conversion for the 395 cylinder. Either way it's one of the easiest saws to work on. Some don't have the experience to be bashing others on this

Yep, saw is easy to work on, no question. But it gets friggin expensive. The nature of the damage on this saw likely necessitates a full teardown. Again, not hard, but at minimum its a good idea.

You can get a $80 394 cylinder on ebay I think, plus the meteor piston and you're still at $130 ish including ship. Assuming thats all you have to do, then great! ... but I'll disagree.

Carry on gents

like i said you need the kit because the impulse on the 394 is made into the intake hose and on the 395 it has a nipple on the cylinder base for impulse
i did one last summer for a logger buddy and he is like me only wants oem parts inside the saw
Dall, I am only collecting knowledge, sorry if I confused you or you misunderstood me. I didn't see where you said that you needed a kit, only that the 394 was NLA and it takes about an hour to change over.
I asked if the kit I linked to was needed or if there is a better way.
Again only seeking knowledge.
You told me you prefer OEM
And I knew, based on your response that I had led you astray with my lack of knowledge and /or terminology
So now if I understand you correctly, you say that you need a kit,
and again I am assuming this, but since you only want OEM, I assume that husqvarna has an OEM kit probably similar to the one I mentioned and linked to ( that you explained that you didn't look at) that they offer.
I apoligize if this was to much trouble to read , but again I was only trying to familiarize myself with a platform that is unfamiliar...

No, I agree that's why I added an extra $50. bucks in my estimated invoice for Chinese bearings seals and gaskets..
Not sure that will cover it, but that's just me imagining a build...

lol not the link you posted
Okay that is possible because I was running thru everything eBay offered to possibly keep him from scraping his saw.
And you are right it wasn't the $60 link, it was the one that I posted above it for$169.-179? From the little red barn, did you get a chance to check that one out?

I definitely don't have the knowledge or experience with this platform, and I hope that it didn't sound like I was bashing anyone. Last thing I would want, I was just collecting info for future use. And doing some quick search's to try and aid the OP, he's in a tough spot, I have been there before, so....
