372XT to XPW Conversion Question.

Run it as is, my EHP 372 has .010" squish, same with my EHP7900.

I did measure it as close to the edge of the cylinder as possible and the smallest part of the solder. I thought about running it but it's just a little to too close for my comfort. My 6421 was .024" without a base gasket and my 357xp was .018".

Is the muffler for an XT hollow? Or is this a different one? Mine has no baffles. Just an entrance and an exit!

Napa sells this great gasket material that’s thinner than oem base gaskets that I’ve been using to tighten squish, I fortify it with 518 or 3 bond. 5$ I think it was for a roll of it.

Yup there hollow. I gutted under the deflector on the last one I had.

Just looking through my notes, my stock 7900 came from the factory with .010" and I'm running my ported 395 with .018" Some saws you can run closer than others, depends on the squish band width, overall tolerances and of course displacement. .020" is a guideline, not a rule. That said I do understand your concern.[emoji111]

I think I'll be fine at .016 because the squish band tapers pretty quick in this cylinder but I'd hate to be wrong and damage something over a 4 dollar gasket.

It will be fine, better than fine actually[emoji106] I alway pull the saw over without the plug, you don't want to hear any taping[emoji44]. I like to use the small tips of the calipers from taking measurement, you do have to be careful there, and always go with the tightest reading.

The intake on the xt is quite a bit larger. You're really going to like the way the saw runs! Ed helped me quite a bit a while back, he even sent me a nice chain just because. Unfortunately he burned a pretty big bridge with me and I haven't spoken to him since. I hope he is doing well thought.

I know! I seen that yesterday when I took it apart. It has to sit a pile of parts till I get my intake clamp. It's killing me!

After much trouble finding a good carb I finialy got her going and ran a tank through her today. It runs very well. May run a few more tanks through it later today.

So I ended up not using a base gasket with squish set at .015" The HD-12 I picked up had a bad check valve in it. None of my local suppliers could get it for me so I got a Zama knock-off from DDave. That carb had a stripped low side needle. Got a refund and bought a real Zama C3M EL8A. Very happy with this carb. Tunes very nicely and very good throttle response.
