Yes, it looks like I am headed that way. The problem is I like running all of them. None of them disappoint me. I even like that little 180 I traded you out of. Every time I say I am done, it only takes a month or 2 to get the itch again. Every time I see a 346xp for sale I fight with myself not to buy it and I already have 2, and a 260.

Another issue commonly overlooked is that the t-torq 372 is a lot less smooth than the earlier version 372/371xp saws. AV numbers for the saw series are significantly different.

newer 372xp/XT 71cc: top handle 4.0 m/s*s; rear handle 5.4 m/s*s
older 371/372xp 71cc: top handle 3.1 m/s*s; rear handle 4.6 m/s*s
From Husqvarna published specs for these saws

That is true, and think that is probably also because of the heavier piston sitting on the same counterweights/crank.

Are we ever gonna get to see a new 70cc class strato/autotune?!

Probably not. Husky has been field testing next gen '372xt replacement saws' for some years now in Europe. But nothing seems to have come of it. Stihl is dragging on the MS441, which most dealers here do not even stock any more. The 75cc MS462 is supposed to be due out this year with M-tronic and springs. Likely the same engine though.

When stock the oe is probably a little stronger, after porting for the woods the xt may have it over the oe a little bit. They really wake up well. The carb on the xt is legendary, it is large, and flows lots of mixture.
The worst problem I think with the xt, is longevity. The heavy strato piston on an unaltered oe crank beats the bottom end up a bit. Loggers around here are still seem to be getting good life out of the xts.

Reread this thread and got to thinking....

Can the new carb be put on the old 372?

Can the old piston be used in the new 372?

If you find a good deal on a xt Thomas, the best runninig combination would be a oe jug and piston installed on it, and using the larger xt carb.

If you come across something, keep me in mind.

I just picked up a 3 month old XT from my dealer.

I'm planning on putting a OE top end on it.

LOL, just reread it myself. There is no cure, only temporary periods of remission, supported by will power, other priorities, and lack of funds. I have not yet resorted to robbing banks and liquor stores to support my habit.

Since your thread is revived so shall your want for a 372 be revived;).

So on topic, I modded an XT that ran really good. Like many have said they are a bit heavier than the OE, they are also a bit taller. The XT piston is heavier than even the 75cc piston by 8 grams if I remember correctly. I am now running the big bore cylinder with the XT carb and I have zero complaints. I think you’d be happy either way you went.
