361 Stihl Oil Pumps

Wondering if anyone has seen anything different than what I am finding?

The 361 seem to come standard with an 046/461 oil pump. I’ve been looking to upgrade to the 046 pump on these saws, and the pump was already there.

I know the upgraded HO pump will pump even more oil, but I can’t see how that would be needed on a saw chassis of this size.

Anyone ever see a dedicated “1135” pump on the 361’s?

In Europe ms 361 has its own pump. I know because i have change it on mine. If you max ms 460 pump you have to be carefoul because it will empty oil tank before gas.

Good question...I can’t remember the 2-3 Ive been into. I think one had an 1128 pump for sure.

I see the ipl lists an 1135 number. I’ll revisit this thread once I wrench on another.

Well I guess I will have to pull the clutch off the new to me 361 when I get a chance this weekend and have a look.

They make three pumps to fit 1135 1128 saws. The 1135 361/362 pump has the least volume. A standard 1128 046/460 pump will be 1/3 more volume, AM ones are not. They are all 361 volume imo.
The 046/460 HO pump has the most volume and it will empty a 361 tank right quick I'm sure. The last one I installed redone with HO gears on a 28" 8pin will empty a dual port, ported 046 decomp jug, no machine work, at the same time as the fuel.

Not needed for 1128 pumps on a 20" bar imo. The standard 046/460 pump is also too much wide open for a 24" bar as you know. 044 and 440 I think are different. Been years since I've repaired a 440. My 12mm 44 is a different pump housing... not sure about the gears. Never messed with the gears in those. No reason to. It never came up. Most needed a complete pump from clutch damage.
441 is the same I'm told be never repaired one inside the pump area. Bet it has the same volume as a 44 or 46.

The 361 you had me put the 1128 pump on had the 1135 stamped on the pump Doc. Probably an older saw than the ones you have there. Terrible oil output with the 1135 oiler. 1128 was an improvement.

So it seems it’s a crapshoot. Have a few I am currently building. I’ll have to keep an eye out.

Never checked my Mtron saw but it leaks so I'll know soon enough. They list the cc of the gears measured by height. Where, I do not remember but it was on the web in english. Germans have it if you can find a good translator attached to the information. Not sure if 361 offered a west coast pump. It pops out in other languages when you see the mm strokes listed.

Part numbers sorted out most of it when I went digging.

The gear numbers or measurements is what matters if they fiscally fit your pump casting.

044 and 440 same pump. They have vertically oriented M4 screw holes and a metal tube emanating from the pump that must be pushed into the feed hole on the case. Can be a PITA and hard to forget once you’ve worked on a bunch of 044-440.

The 361/441/046/460/461 appear to physically be one in the same. Like Ken said above, the least to most output appears to be 361<460<460HO. They are easily ID’d by the horizontally oriented M4 mounting holes and the input and output tits on the rear of the pump.

I only learned this because I had to. These things were a nightmare to play with when they come in buckets of parts.

Unmolested 361

Had a 20" bar on it before it got the rear handle snapped off. Looks like it was well oiled. But know for sure when I get it put back together.
