can it be the acc pump on the 199's?
I'm lost @Tor R

I think the HDA body is physically just a little larger. If my memory serves me correct the bore in the main body is too, hence why everybody wants them on the little saws.

Personally I am not looking for the fastest cookie cutter out there. Going bigger carb can add issues. My saw runs better with the Zama than it did the HDA. Could I have made it work with the HDA, sure. To me it's not worth it.

The saw is plenty strong. It was bought originally by @Genius. He ran it stock for years and then sent it to @Termitebuffet. The saw is called "Stitch Maker" as a joke on Ross's natural gravitation to farming accidents. I did NOT build it. I know Ross said he never liked the 199 on it and I agree. If @sunfish gets good results with the HDA, I am not going to argue. This is my second and last 346xp. Great saw... and all I really need.

If some of the better builders with lots of experience would like to chime in I value their input.

Here it is freshly ported... you can see how it pulls all over the rpm band when heavy handed or self feeding. It's pretty broad for a 50cc saw.

I thought it could be the 199 accelerator pump that made the trottle system to act weird.
I've never paid much attention to my 199's, either they work properly or the acc pump is leaking, if I can't adjust them properly I toss them. The saw I test them on is a 357, if they dont work good there they will never work good on an 346!
I got the same opinion as you got on saws Jimmy, they has to be easy to adjust, I'm not looking for the extra 1% gain if I has to adjust them the whole time :)

I'm in the EL32 camp (stock carb on the NE). They have the best manners for a work saw and gr at idle/response. The 357 filter is too large for the 346 carb box imho and I'd venture to guess it doesn't help airflow that much due to shrouding. Stick with a proper working stock carb and be happy.
