seems like the stihl clamp would be a better option

Yeah, I think I am going to take it off and put a stihl clamp on it. No matter which way I go I dont get a warm and fuzzy about the intake setup on this saw....
Why?

I've got many, many hours on a few old 346s' and never a problem.

My brother has a 1991 351 that has the plastic clamp, that saw has been used commercially for years without a problem. Planned to put a 346 top-end on it 5 years ago, but it wont die & still runs too good. lol

This is what my 345 intake boot looks like with the plastic clamp on it. Looks like the bottom is pulled out a bit. Haven't been using it much until I can get a new clamp on it. Not really looking forward to taking the jug off just to replace the crappy plastic clamp.

For future reference......

Never un-snap that metal clamp. Just pop the whole thing off with a screwdriver. Put it back on by lining it up and wiggling it on. Again....never un-snap the clamp.

lol better yet dont use the husky junk snap clamp or plastic clamp

If you can cut the locking part of the clamp off, you can put a metal screw type clamp over the plastic part and tighten it up. This is doable without taking the jug off.

I was thinking of that. But it is tight in there. My paws won't fit too well. Lol
I tried to move it back onto the jug with a long screw driver, but I can't get any leverage. I am not to keen with these clamshell jugs.

I can't remember your name yet sir. So.......Sir, If you can drill a small hole in each of those tabs, you can use tie wire to lock that dude together. No more worries.

Photo0884.jpg Photo0885.jpg If you want to make up something to help the install and make it a lot slicker then something like this pair of converted pipe pliers helps out. You can grip at slightly different angles to give a "together and in" motion that allows the small tag to get into the slot. I made them after messing up the one in the pic and snapping a bit of it away !! after many failed attempts ...since then all installed worked 1st time . Sorry about the pics being a little fuzzy

OK.. Thanks. I still have to get a drill in there. It is tight and I have big, short Portuguese fingers. I'll take another look at it.
Not sure how long that intake boot has been like that. When I first heard of the issue, I checked and noticed it backed off a little on the bottom. It may have been like that for years. I got the saw from my FIL. I just don't want to blow the saw up. Lol

you may be able to dremmel of those taps.
Else then the normal metal clamp Husky provide us with, the 390 screw clamp should work.
I always forget to order them when I need a clamp (to easy to always order after IPL's) but I for sure gone order one next time I place an order at my dealer.

Cool. I think I will order one of those 390 Husky screw clamps. I saw it in another thread. Maybe order a Stihl screw on clamp as well.
Just keep it to have on hand.

Or a 372 clamp?
different diameter on them versius 390 screw clamp thats why they still have different part number even both of them have got new parts number over the years.

When they came with the service bulletin to trim the plastic clamp on JReds it was the metal screw clamp to 2077/2083, later the clamp was updated on 2188 who is the same clamp # as Husky 390 has.
