My 288 loves to leak fuel from the fuel cap. I bought a new on at a local saw shop a while back, and it still leaks. I am not sure if the cap was OEM or a knockoff. Would the OEM replacement caps say Husqvarna on them anywhere? Are they less likely to be leakers? I would like to stop storing this saw on its side...

Here is a pic of the saw. The cap looks right, but maybe poor quality?

Pick up a "new" style cap. They have a rubber grommet that seals side and bottom edge.

Wouldn't happen to have a part number or know what saw I could tell them the cap is for would you? Thanks!

From what I've experienced with my own saws is that the tank expands, probably from ethanol, and results in a loose fit with the cap o-ring,
You need the newer style cap with the improved type seal. I've probably replaced 2 dozen of them, with both oem and aftermarket, and it has worked every time.

I've also tried to source over-sized o-rings so to use the old caps that I have a draw full of, but so far no luck. Have tried metric and standard sizes but always more or less the same size or too big to fit within reason.

Thanks. I am running only premium non ethanol now. I got tired of replacing fuel lines and diaphragms. I have too many saws for that crap...

Just tried the cap from my 455 Rancher. It fits. I will order a set of caps for it.
