Installing new bearing and crankshaft in a 288. The bad crank was a 501 81 49-01 replacing it with a 501 81 61-02 which is out of a 394. Suppose to work but the crank weights are hitting the bottom and locking the crank. Anyone know if there is a difference? Early model saws vs. late model saws?

Cases will go together but the crank will not turn. I even relieved the cases a small amount and it still is hitting.

I know some of the later 394 cranks have a line that runs down the middle of the crank throws that protrudes slightly. I'm not sure if it was by design or a casting issue.

I can send you a regular 288 crank.

Sounds like bearings are binding, take a dead blow hammer and rap on both crank ends until crank frees up.
