Alrighty fellers its been a little while and I figured I’d try and do a build/ documentation and or a proof of concept thread if you will.

And I know.. whats the point of this build? To scratch an itch I guess I dunno haha. Kidding,
my wheels got turning about a few things. I thought to my self, “I like the simplicity and feel of the 254 and combine that with a modernized transfer design AND a longer stroke” the 346oe+ne /350/353 being 32mm and the 254/257/261/262s have a 34mm stroke.
And with the 254 having a shorter rod, it made things waayy easier. Well, easier enough so I could mock things up and get a reasonable squish with out drastic work.

Maybe the longer stroke will make it run like a bat outta hell, maybe not. We’ll see.
Alrighty Enough jib jabberin lets get to the pics

IMG_6146.jpegSkip what seems like a decade worth of back and forth tweaking on the holes, we got er on the case👍🏻🤙🏻. That area you see squared/marked was where the carb was sitting. These were are reaallly nice cases so I didnt want to hack em up, again, I was still planning things out at this point in time and didnt want to impulsively so stupid things

I ground the FW cap until nothing was dragging/ catching. Looks like Ill be able to use the stock throttle rod too. I was using a junk 199 for mocking up, it was just about the same physical size as the original 120.
Everything is seeming to fit rather nicely too😬

Got a junker set of cases and ground down that little ledge to get the cylinder to sit flat. I hardly got onto the actual gasket mating surfaces on the cases

Matched the transfers to the “new” cases.. still plenty of meat for the gasket(s) to seal. The pic with the 2 sides together looks wonky but they are dead even.

I ended up using the 357/59 intake boot along with the stock 254 filter holder, carb, throttle rod etc. everything moves like it would with the 254 top on it. The mount hole for the filter holder lines up with the bosses in the cases which is a huge plus. I didn't want that boot floppin’ about

Thank
Nice work buddy! How many brain cells were fried during this build? Glad to see someone thinking that much into all the workings of a two stroke!
ya Dan! Alot of them were fried… bahaha. Just constant back and forth getting everything to fit right was just ridiculous but worth it. After getting the jug on, everything kinda fell together after that point.

The 346 cylinder was pretty straight forward and less dinking around, mainly because I already knew how the holes needed to be spaced(thanks to my stock 254 base gasket)
