The piston's hatch marks are wore off on the intake side and the exhaust side has still got alot on it. Haven't paid much attention to it before, sounds a little weird. Any of you experience this and what could cause it?

Dust/Dirt ingestion?

I was thinking about that but the saw was not too dirty and the filtration system looked fine. First time into a strato. Its a 2012 logging saw, so can't expect everything to be good. Was going to put the piston back in it, but decided not to.

It's pretty normal on those. I think it could have something to do with the strato charge. Dirt ingestion shouldn't be an issue as the filtration is very good. 40:1-32:1 mix with good oil is a must.

The strato charge is air, is that not correct? Funny to see air do that...

They use less fuel which means less lubrication. That fresh air charge may push some of the already lacking lubrication out from between the cylinder wall and piston. Just a theory... I've built a pile of 372 xt's and they all show more wear on the intake side.

Hmmm, makes sense to me. I forgot about less fuel and lubrication. I guess I'm just used to conventional p&c's. Interesting theory. If thats the teait they all exhibit, it must be due to more friction..

I thrive on challenges, and throwing money away for the sake of the EPA!!
I know most guys on the forums dislike the x-torq but in real world falling they're hard to beat. I've built several for local guys that love them. Like I said...good oil at a healthy mix goes a long way.

372's are my favorite saw I have a bunch.[emoji16]

You could also remove the divider from filter holder and intake boot.

I usually run 40:1, sometimes 32:1.

With full acknowledgement of the crazy number of variables that will affect the outcomes.....
Has anyone who "gutted" the strato separation of any model of a saw (or other engines), gone back and looked at the wear patterns?
Would be interesting to see if there's any significant difference.
IF anything did show, would we know if it's lube vs dry air related or perhaps higher surface loading due to the extra porting gaps in the cylinder wall.
But I'm mainly thinking of the, across the piston dimples, flow stratos which have more cylinder wall "missing" on the intake side, for the loading difference.

How about the long transfer tunneled models?
Any signs of carbon or cooked gases/varnish building up in the tunnels. How about on the piston walls or in the ring grooves where the charge flows?

Not much of a challenge if you are comfortable taking a top end off. I did it to my xtorq, was a fun little project.

so far between the two OE and xtorq have not seen a major Difference in performance, if any at all. I aint the best tuner or troubleshooter yet so so take my mini review lightly.
I have very little runtime on the conversion but I will say that i noticed a slight weight difference. Top cover is lower and saw feels a little more nimble. For me thats worth doing it alone.
If you are curious on a parts list and what you need to do, you can search or ask and ill tell you what i did.

Already got all the parts and got it tore down. Bad bearing. So I'll put it back together when I get home from Yellowstone. I usually use meteor pistons but decided to try a Hyway popup. Just out of curiosity. I could put the original piston in it but I dont think it would last very long. It will be interesting to see how she runs. Alot of confusion at first about what fit and what didnt. I found fleetcommands video a tad bit late.

His video doesnt address the heat shield not fitting properly. You will have to trim it slightly to work with the new cover
