Yup...all removing the screen in a 201 does is melt *s-word. They need a gaping hole installed in the mufflers...
I've done a few 201 turds. I don't do the regular mm with the hole in the side. I work with what was already there to keep it stock looking. Wish I had pics

Toss it on and se if there is gains. Use it to hog out crazy. What's to lose?
I'm going to save it for that. I've got some things I'd like to try. But I need to get this saw back to the owner. I'll be keeping an eye peeled for a dead 201 to play with.

You all are going to think I am even more hack than you already do. I use a unibit to mod the muffler. I remove the screen and slide in a piece of sheet metal and leave the muffler on the saw. Use the shopvac and suck up the chips. reinstall the screen and the mod is done. just trim the clutch cover.

Genius
Pics? How big of a hole do these saws like?

Here's one I did...I usually keep the screen in for other folks...this is mine. And I normally make them round...tried more square on this one...don't think it matters though.

Ok back on it this morning.
This looks to me like a big restriction.

I realize it's intent is to separate the strato air from the fuel mix.
What would happen if the stratos were allowed to get mix fuel as well?

I was wondering that too if I had a fuch around saw and another boot I'd cut some divider out and remove the carb insert but youl need to keep in mind of big end lubrication

I decided to try it with one ring because I like to experiment. Also the base gasket is deleted, squish was cut back to .016, muffler modded, and timing advance.
It's freaking cold and all my wood is buried in snow but I dug a piece out to try it on. I may have took the rakers a hair low but I think she's running pretty strong.
14" bar is pretty much buried.
