Spent a long time reading different posts about doing an MM, thanks for all the insight. This is my first try; bought a replacement muffler to try this on and left the original alone; spark arrestor will be put back in; then a tuning.

Is this size fine or too big? Read different thoughts about removing the baffles; too big, too small, etc.1F7CC6CD-EA52-4A4E-A87B-70DFA29BCD45.jpeg DE376C06-B116-47FF-9FE9-BA38FABE6C86.jpeg 59F06684-C30C-466F-8810-C36BF71D0D32.jpeg

It’s hard to make that hole too big. You just need to watch opening things towards the front so that it doesn’t burn your brake lever

Good to know! I left the outside alone. Ran across the edges of the opening to remove any burrs I caused but that was it.

Personally I always remove baffles if possible. Those don't look to be too choked up though.

When you do that how do you use a spark screen? Or are you not using one and take it out too?

No screens for me. If it was required though I'd probably tack a coarser mesh stainless screen over the opening.

I’m in California and we need to keep the screens in here, I don’t know your muffler but in all the ones I have done I was able to retain a small ledge around the edge to hold the screen in place.

muffler is the 2 piece design. I kept the ledge for the screen as well. Here is the current product. Are you thinking I can open it up more?

That question will be better answered by the pros. I personally open it up as far as I can and still have a seat for the screen.

I opened my 362 factory exit all around the back and only a smidge towards the front. It has a small melt mark on the brake handle from idling with the brake on.

No but I can get one.
The carbed saw is modded but still a single port muffler work saw.
The Mtron is still stock and pitifully inadequate imo.

I’d def like to see it. Mine is a carb saw too, no MTronic. I did just get a 261c that I’d like to MM too.

It seems the 1 or 2 in the end numbers it more prone to roasting the brake handle when not made a dual port.
Only the 361's had no issues from North America. That muffler has a tiny 9/32nds exhaust outlet on the back hitting the deflector and then coming around the muffler to exit. No way to cut the hole too far forward.
That 361 muffler was sad and always needed a second port. These hollow can 362 saws with a modded single exit and other mods responds well imo. Just doing the screen delete and exit hole was a noticeable difference but not much. Most of the gain was in removing the screen. Enlarging the outlet went better with other mods imho. Having two mufflers helped figure out what helps what.

HD1 or HD2 filter on yours?
Mine is 1 with outerwear

Thanks for the pics! It has the HD2 on it. I tried to leave the outside opening completely alone too. Maybe I should remove the screen? Going to install it tomorrow, tune it, and see how it goes. Worse case I guess I can always put the stock muffler back on.
@NixKnows
Does your muffler have the hollow can and the new tiny screen?
If so loose the screen. My 362CM has the deflector like yours. This muffler is not a two piece. It is like a hollow 361 press together can. See the pics

It does have bottom bolt holes vs the 361 bracket type and is a different shape.

Ok, I see what you’re saying now. No it doesn’t have that style screen. My others saws do. This saw is a hollow 2-piece can with a lip inside for a screen to sit.

You should be good then. Bigger screen segments will help and still keep the bugs out.
My screen looks more like a 361 style. Your saw is much newer. A year or two can have large changes. I ran this muffler on my modded 361 to see how much better this was. No change. Bolted it on a ported 361 that had a dual port and it hurt the saw.
