100 on the 22 mag
200 on the 17 but the wind has to be super still at that distance or if blowing, consistent.
Neither will be match grade accurate, if you are looking for that. Ammo is the issue. No match 22 mag or 17 ammo exists to my knowledge.

That said I'll take a 17 hmr all day over the 22 mag for my type shooting.

I have quite a bit of 22wmr. I was looking at buying a rifle to shoot behind the house at 300rds in my lane I built.

Im fully aware of the limitations of these size pills out to that yardage but I still want to do it. Shooting which ever round I chose will be more of a practice of mechanics for the larger gun Im putting together for much longer distances.

The reason Im asking about the two different chamberings is that in my readings about longer range shooting of the .22wmr I came across a comparison to the .17wsm.

Just like to hear from someone that has shot both and mayhaps pick their noodle.

My bad. My brain saw 17 hmr not wsm. Never have shot the wsm. I went center fire over the wsm in a CZ varmint chambered for 17 Hornet. Its soooo sweet a cartridge and rifle. It will smoke lill critters at 300 and mine was just under 1/2 moa with factory ammo.

The two you listed id go WSM. Imma speed freak though.

You get the idea from the picture, they are both rimfire cartridges. 17hmr 17 gr bullet @ 2550 fps vs 17wsm 20 gr bullet @ 3000 fps.

There is a company that now makes a reloading kit for these, not joking. I'll post it when I can remember who it is. Apparently you can reload these with pistol powder and lead bullets even cheaper than reloading anything centerfire.

winchester 22mag. I only use rimfires for hunting small game. Any faster/more powerful I’ll go with a centerfire.

The late, great 9422! Winchester did a terrible job marketing those, I didn't even know they existed until near the end of production. I'm a hardcore Marlin guy, but I would take a 9422 over a 39 any day.
