Its oem stihl cyl,1128 series,no decomp, but it has a port on the base flange for what ? Anyone seen one of these ? That looks to be a 12mm 044 cylinder.
Stihl used these cylinders after the slant fins cylinders. Later 044 and I believe all 440 cylinders had a decomp.

Early 440 didn’t have one. @Fifelaker has one that doesn’t have a decomp. I was surprised
Good to know. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ms440 that didn’t have a decomp. At least stihl was consistent about not being consistent. :nut:

Yeah i had a later plastic tag 044 with no dcomp,so i knew about that, its the port in the base that has me baffled ? I hadn't ever seen that before. It definitely looks factory,it is channeled out just under and to the left of the intake, and dead ends there

Ok so did those auto choke models used a vacuum impulse to accuate the choke ? Im guessing the cyl's where cast and not drilled until they where to be used on an auto choke model ?

It's a mid year 044 cylinder put that baby on a ms440 and you'll have one hell of a saw.:beer-toast1:

What do you think? Will one of these cylinders run better than an average 10mm slant fin? The one I've got is in beautiful shape inside, but it's got 3 broken fins on the side.

In my experience with the 044 and ms440s if you put the early to mid 044 cylinders on the ms440s they make really good power without even porting them.
