No it is present and looks intact to me but when engaged it slips past the tab on the throttle trigger seemingly allowing the butterfly to return to full closed position. Can these become worn? I wish I could get my hands on a 026 that is working correctly, then I could figure this out pretty quickly.

You have to squeeze the throttle before moving the lever to choke position. Are you doing that?

Yes and the butterfly moves with throttle pull but when the switch is down in the choke position the butterfly snaps back to closed.

When in the high idle position, the throttle plate is only open a tiny bit. You actually have to focus on the carb linkage to see if it's open at all. Not doubting you, just making sure you realize. High idle provides maybe 5-10% throttle opening

I understand, trust me when the switch is in high idle or choke position the throttle is opened just as much as when the switch is in the off position.

You can always justify another saw.

It should look like this on full choke, throttle released.

After looking at the linkage in the saw tonight it appears that the plastic tabs on the master control lever and the throttle trigger that are supposed to catch and keep the butterfly slightly open while In the choke and high idle position are slipping past one another allowing the butterfly to go back to straight up and down closed position. Is it time to look for some new pieces or is there a way to repair this?

This sounds like the problem.

Thanks for the pic. We can't really see it, but given that he now knows the throttle plate is closed at high idle, the OP'S problem is 1/4" left of the throttle rod, 1" down under the master control lever where it contacts the trigger where the 2 meet. Its either the MC lever, the trigger, or both

I missed this post last night. Sorry about that. You are right on track. Ebay has them usually for cheap.

Yes I believe your right, I pulled a trigger and master control off a junk 034, goons see if they fit tonight. Does anyone know if these parts are interchangeable from an 034 to an 026? Thanks

Aside from this problem, you mentioned 10-15 pulls to get it started. How many pulls to get it to pop with the choke engaged?

Is the tab on you master switch above or below the one on your throttle? It's hard to see in the pic. Thanks

The tab on the throttle only kicks it off high idle. Edited because you should never take advice off the internet.

8 or nine when cold probably

You can take the back off the air cleaner and, while holding the choke flap and rod in place, engage the choke and see if the flap is sealing off completely (I think). If it's sealing, you might need a carb kit and cleaning. Or the impulse line might be cracked or not sealing. Mine starts in probably 5 pulls cold, and then switch to high idle for 2 pulls. But the way yours is, after it pops on choke, you probably have to pull it 10 more times to get it running with no high idle. That's why I asked
