For those making fun of the file in the drill method, why don't you try it? Lots of chainsaw files don't get well used on the butt end so there would be enough "worn out" files laying around to give this a go at no cost. Then you can speak from experience and not just assume this method is ineffective. I have not tried it but know people that do it this way with good results. I may try it sometime.

As for my filing, I freehand file on the tailgate in the field, put the saw in a big vice and freehand file in the shop or if the chain is buggered, I put it on one of my three grinders.

I have not tried it but know people that do it this way with good results. I may try it sometime.
I would be interested in your comments if you do try it.

Especially interested to hear if it 'works better' than the traditional filing that you do, or compared to other rotary methods, such as a Dremel or Timberline tool.
