Many a chicken part and crappie has been cooked in this old skillet, Last time it was used was back in the 80's on the old H. C. wood stove which is not here anymore.
Cast iron is our friend.
I wouldn't venture to guess at the number of pounds of fish, chicken and bacon, or gallons of sausage gravy I've cooked in a cast iron skillet.
I've got a cast iron griddle that covers two burners on my stove. It gets a lot of use.

Morning fellas! Little food for thought (pun intended I suppose)...if you folks have fish fries, deep fry turkeys, whole chickens, etc, etc like I do, get to Academy Sports...they got 3-gal LouAna Peanut Oil for $19.99, regular $29.99. Just came back with five!

Pic of the griddle.
Cooked in my wife's large black iron last week (I say hers because it was inherited from her grandma). We have plenty of black iron cookware, including a dutch oven with legs for cooking over coals.
After a light rinse I was moving over to the stove to put it down -- it slipped from my hand and landed on the handle. It broke it off as well as a chunk out of the side of the pan. Needless to say she was
not a happy camper. Now I have the challenge to see if I can get it repaired. :(

Indeed! I saw that when I was in there to pick up a few things on Tuesday. Best price I've seen lately. I have some wings and some fish to fry (striper!).
Thanks my friend. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! Post pics of the fried goodness!

Here you go. Next to the griddle is a crumb crust Apple pie, baked in a cast iron skillet. Prior to serving, my wife will warm the pie, add a caramel sauce and serve with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream. It don't suck.image.jpeg

I cooked some stuff for a small company staff meal. Cooked 4 butts, 2 racks of spares (to be cut up and served) and a brisket (its already tucked nicely in and getting real tender). I don't like my brisket blackened.
Cooked three chickens not pictured on the cooker but one pic is the finished smoked half with a new rub I've been concocting. It looks fried but its actually smoked -- the flavor was fantastic. Happy Thanksgiving men. I did not cook a turkey -- sorry. :D

These are a few days old. Home made vegetable beef soup (literally to die for!). Also sausage cornbread cooked in the black iron pan. The other pic is blueberry muffins for a light desert. Delish!

Love the griddle -- did it come with the stove? (sorry for the dumb question). I've just never seen one.

I bought it about 10 years ago at the local farm & home store. I don't remember who makes it.
I've also got a Lodge griddle, that's similar, but I prefer this one. The lodge is a bit wider and longer overall but the cooking surface is a bit smaller.
Lodge is still making theirs, http://shop.lodgemfg.com/griddles-and-grill-pans/pro-grid-iron-reversible-grill-griddle.asp
