Just last year I saw three string trimmers suffer a catastrophic failure from carbon buildup, and two more that were close. All five trimmers had a diet of Ultra…given the nature of trimmers not typically being held WOT all the time makes me wonder if ultra requires more heat to burn enough to not leave crud behind.

I’ve heard the ultra actually works well in the 4mix trimmers. No idea if it’s true or why but was word on the street.

I got a good look at my PS-9010 piston today while swapping over a modded muffler.
The saw is on her 6-8th tank of fuel, not sure as I lost count.
Last two tanks full were running a 36" B&C, as such a fair load.

The saw got run exclusively on red Makita 50:1 2-stroke oil mixed at 40:1, I dare say it looks very good.

It does. I wonder who makes their oil. Is it some other oil rebranded as Makita?

I honestly don't know, but it is different than any other brand 2-stroke oil I tried.
It only compares to red Dolmar 50:1 oil, which makes sense and which I used excessively prior to switching to Makita oil (I got a very good price on purchasing a whole box of it, 12x 1 Liters).

I tried many oils and most leave a dry carbon residue that would build up over time, or a hard enamel like glazing, neither showed satisfactory "flushing" properties.

I love this stuff, I am glad I got a whole cardboard box full off it! :)
Both labels, neither reveals much info.

Pretty sure Hus XP has that GVO sticker too. Will confirm soon.

Defo does, but i googled and the GVO tag is just a european recycling of used containers agreement. Wild goose chase sorry.

There is next to no info on the packaging.
Shame really, it is great oil IMHO - no reason to be secretive about it.

There must be a data sheet about that oil somewhere online, without it they wouldn't be able to sell/market the stuff.

Here in the US they mainly sell the full synthetic which is blue or blue/green colored. I've never seen the red until now. Doing a little searching, it might be a semi-synthetic oil. I was using the Dolmar full synthetic but just ordered the Makita full synthetic. I use the 6.4 oz bottles with 2 gallons for 40:1. I thought I did see a post a couple of years ago that did say which company made their oil but I can't remember the name.
Has anyone ever had an issue with shelf life of mix oil? I read somewhere that recommended 5 years.Screenshot_20220704-230021_Chrome.jpg

Did the trimmers have the small arrestor screen still in place? If so chunk them and the Ultra will work

I did come across the information I referred to earlier regarding Dolmar/Makita 2-cycle synthetic oil.
This is a clip of a post from tri-rick on 4-17-2009 found at
Bob is the oil guy site
Lawn Mower and Small Engine
Poulan Synthetic 2 Cycle Oil
"Poulan Pro synthetic oil is the same as Dolmar/Makita US synthetic oil and Baileys Woodland Pro synthetic oil, all blended by Spectrum Corporation in Tennessee." This was referring to North America. He said he wasn't sure who blended their oil for the European markets.

Still running some raisman full synthetic. Seems to work. Opened one up a while back. Fixed the problem and internals looked happy. Carbon hasn’t been an issue in any of my saws. Not sure why but just a black top piston.

Having owned several Mazda rotary-engined cars, a JASO FD rated 2-cycle oil is best. I run 40:1 to 50:1 in my 50:1 OPEs and 100:1 in my Mazda's for spirited 9K rpm driving or 200:1 for everyday driving. Any JASO-FD rated 2 stroke oil is best for lubrication, reduced ash, and stability over time.
