Stock form 361- 4.6hp 262xp-4.8hp. Stihl 361 introduced in 2004, 262xp in 1989, took awhile for Stihl to catch up. Just saying, both will cut trees.

I ran my stock 361 vs my 262, both with 20" 3/8 freshly filed round chain, and they were neck and neck. I think the 262 started to speed up as it warmed up and may have been a second faster than the 361. Was cutting in a 16-18" dry/dead white ash log.

I miss both saws.

If you go to the AS website where they actually put them on the scale, the 361 is 12 lbs 12.6 oz and the 262 is 13 lbs 2.6 oz.

In addition, I believe the 361 has spring AV and the 262 does not.

So, since the new 462 is 13 lbs 3.2 oz, I guess Stihl more than caught up!

FYI the 044 is about 14 lbs (not sure which crank), the 460 is 14 and 3/4 lbs, and the 441 was 15 lbs.

Can't go to AS website, had myself removed, because I believe America is the best. My problem, no one else's.

I believe 262xp has springs. Would hope a 462 with 70cc and being released 30 years later, with new materials (more plastic, thinner cylinder wall) would have weight savings and increased output.View attachment 314466 View attachment 314467 View attachment 314469

The new Husky 60 and 70 cc saws are not any lighter. A 562 is the same weight as a 462 (it was lighter, but then they had to strengthen the case).

Conversely, Stihl came out with a 362 V II and a 400 that are both lighter than 13 lbs.

Where the weight balances, has a lot to do with it, the 372 feels lighter in my hands than a 572, but it's not. The echo 7310 feels like a brick, but it not really. The saws that have weight farther back "most husqvarna saws"and balance better with longer bars, always feel heavier to me, than saws that are more nose heavy IE most Stih's and the much loved 7900. I tend to prefer a slightly nose heavy saw. Weight isn't everything, the 7900 feels the same in my hands as a 500i, but the 500i is lighter.

What ratio was the fuel mixed at before weighing?

The subjective things that make one saw feel better to someone are not the same for all users, so choose what you like.

But ... #s are real.

That said, matching your saw to the right bar is very important, and using light bars can make a huge difference in how a saw feels.

Put a 20" ES bar on a 362 and it will be very nose heavy, run a 20" Stihl Light bar on the same saw and it balances just fine.

And then you get your "mental favorites" for which there just is no explanation. The power of your mind can be very strong.

Interesting as we say in Australia, 'horses for courses'. I prefer a tail heavy saw as BOTH hands can carry the weight, thus taking more weight off the front arm. It not only feels lighter to me, but I can move the saw around easier.
