Best solution I found is to buy a complete starter! Those things are the devil!

Needle/flat nose locking pliers make life easy also.

New cover, using the old internals?

remove screw, remove cord, remove the black/red little shield. Spring is now exposed grab both ends with the pliers and lift/place in new cover.



If it slips, then place it on a flat surface, use the cord recoil plastic white thing to roll it back up. Slowly flip in and grab it with the pliers again and place it in cover.

Done that with hemostats... need at least two. Wind it in slow. It's a devil.

2 nails on a piece of wood is what I’ve done to wind and catch it from unspooling completely
