There telling us to cut all the ash down while the getting is good. They figure if there’s nothin for the borer to eat they’ll die too and the ash can regenerate. They can sprout from the stump.

Got a question though are they clear cutting all of it coast to coast though? Is it like the pine beetle that can come back?

I’m not sure to be honest. I do think there trying to quarantine it if that makes sense, keep sales of it out of states it’s not in yet. It’s got a real strong foothold though and not many natural predators. They mentioned releasing parasitic wasps and stuff that eat them.

They are seeing it all the way over here that’s why I’ve wondered if they were having it clear cut coast to coast, from what I’ve been told by some guys over in NY and a few other places out that way they try to save it with little success.

Ya gotta do with what'cha got...lol...
Just got that saw back from @huskihl and haven't been able to run it yet. Here is the video he did with it wearing a 32" bar, I think.

Different animal now, for sure.
Kinda sucks noodling with a 32" bar and no dogs lol. I was trying to keep the log from hitting the case, hence the couple of kickbacks

I thought he had a 029 big bore to 311??

Please let me clarify. We have 2 saws, the 029 my dad bought new in '98-99, I think. It has been fitted with 039 cylinder, pop-up piston.
And we have the MS362 that we bought new 4-5 yrs ago that was just modded.

Why did you use this type of face cut; what is the benefit compared to the conventional cut? I've never seen this in any "how to fell a tree" manual.

It’s a block face with a humboldt on the stump. The biggest benefit to using a block face is the butt hugs the stump longer because the hinge wood can bend vs snap straight off.

Does that "damage" the log at all? As in split or crack the trunk?
I can see the advantage to help steer tree.

That cedar was rotten when it came down the first 25’ or so from memory collapsed in on itself. Most of the time a block face won’t do any damage to the butt logs.
