Makita /Dolmar 7900..7910..should be close to the "simple design", like the 288 was.Well, I’ll be the first one.
My 288. It spends more time waiting for parts the cutting wood. When it does run, it runs great. But I get two tank fills threw it and something is broke next time out. I know it has a huge cult following but I’m looking for something newer.
Let me know when you’re ready to sell Just messin I have one. Weird you’re having so many problems, mine has been as reliable as a Chevy 350.Well, I’ll be the first one.

I agree with this. Stock I wasn’t impressed, didn’t live up to that “factory hot rod” reputation it has. BUT, now I have a MOFO 262, completely different story. My new favorite saw.husky 262XP I was glad to see it walk off with its new owner
MS 660, what a dog in stock form, wouldn't pull a greasy string out of a cats backside. I own a Deets ported 066 Mag and a MOFO ported China 660 now, MUCH more betta.
A lot of really good (the best even) saws are overrated by people putting them on such a high pedestal that nothing could ever really live up to.
The irony of this thread is that......A saw has to be well thought off by many to be then judged overrated by yourself once you bought it
A very good point !!The nice thing is. The over rated saws sell quickly!

I've had a few saws where, well, they never lived up to the stats or reputation. I guess in some ways I expect more as older I get..
1) Stihl MS 201 with rear handle, had a good MS 200 and the 201 was a turtle, its probleby the saw who has dissapointed me most.
2) Husky 133 SG, 34cc closed port jug, thought about the perfect light limbing machine when building her, wasnt really a problem with lack of torque as I knew 34cc is limited, but the lack of trottle respons was a bummer.
3) Husky 362 xpg, 60cc class, 3.5kw, but with weight and size as a 372.
4) Husky 350, yeah I know, your guys love them, out of 10 340/345/350 I've not yet seen one without failing a vac/press test.
So, sort it out (as you wood with any saw), then they are really good runners. Best harry homeowner platform out there IMO. 346 top (ported even better) and you have a very light weight screamer. Only major issue I see with them (around my area) is the leaking muff.4) Husky 350, yeah I know, your guys love them, out of 10 340/345/350 I've not yet seen one without failing a vac/press test.
