I had two here in the last year Simon one hitachi CA-33 pure fire
And the tanaka 4501 like your photo I've sold them on now but they started and ran well I thought the 4501 would feel like the husky42 with its narrow body and long legs View attachment 58160
Thats sort of where i was coming from on the 4501 to Andrew...proper "Pro" level saw according to "Tanaka" web page.
The one on Ebay with postage made just over £200 !! bit rich for me on that occasion .

the tanaka was offered out a good discount over here winter of 2015 - 2016
I could have picked up the top handle and the 3501 for a really good price
But I didn't because myself and other users started getting ps-420 fever

I think the 4501 was going out at £398 retail

Ps 420 sc fever :D......hummmm , that little Booger was in the back of my mind when the one i was looking at (tanaka 4501 ) got over £150. Would have to have been a buy for keeps i figured rather than try and move it on. Will find one a bit cheeper with luck .

I have the original 420 with 2,7 hp and the Hitachi CS40EL with 2,4hp. Depending on your needs and your other equipment I would choose. Of course the Hitachi is WAY lighter and the saw is MUCH more agressiv with real quick high reving up to 14500! I consider my hitachi to be a perfect companion to my 60cc saw. The hitachi cuts oak problem free up to 20-30cm diametre and then the 60cc takes over from 20-60cm diametre.
The 420 is more nimble and with a "continues power increase". I would consider it more a "universal" saw. The dolmar has no problems up to 30-40cm diametre in oak. So if you only need one saw definately get the 420, if you consider it to be part of a team consider the hitachi/tanaka.

You want the Makita (Yamabiko made in Japan) DCS231t top handle. 23-cc's & the lightest gas chainsaw for sale today. I have 2!, I also have a MS150t. Guess which saw I grab when I have aot of trimming and small branch limbing first? The 231t has quite amazing torque for its size/displacement.

Mate, I did some research, the Makita 231T is a Zenoah, with a Robin engine. Yamabiko have no part in it. I like mine, its pretty good for a small saw, even better after I put a 2nd exhaust port in the muffler. but.......... anything over about 100-120mm it struggles. I just bought an Echo 2511T - chalk & cheese! The Echo eats the Makita at work & is better built.

Saw these little guys sitting on a shelf at the building supply store today.
I thought Hitachi was green and Tanaka was orange.... I was obviously wrong.

I have two Tanaka/Hitachi saws.
A TCS 33EDTP with a 14 inch bar. Only problem is its pretty heavy (8.4 lbs powerhead) for a 1.6hp saw, but its a beast in the wood, IMHO, because its got a ton of torque in reserve. So its super easy to control in the cut...had it 3 yrs with little use but so far its been dead reliable.
Also got the TCS 51EAP the (11.5 lbs 3.5 hp) a rear handle with a 20" bar. For a cheap 240 dollar saw this is a great running machine and seems very well built. Just like its little brother its got a boat load of torque, starts easy and is a beast in the cut.

Hello.

This is my only Tanaka, a ecs-3351c.
Nice and light, but stops from lack of fuel when cutting with bar up or down.
Have not looked into it, but if anyone have an idea about it i will give it a try.

Best regards

Worked on one of these recently, seemed to be kinda cheaply built even though it seemed to run nice. But I guess what do you expect for a 175$.
