Hey guys bought 462 saw that won't throttle up as a project . The butterfly on the carburetor is working as should but no go .

It starts and idles but as soon as u pull the throttle, it's like it doesn't exist lol .

Before I start pulling it apart has anyone had a similar experience?

Edit: managed to get some time and take the exhaust off and have a look inside. There is such much carbon inside the muffler ITS UNREAL !

Update 25 Feb:

pulled the top end off and lord be hold ! Piston has turned into a grenade . So I guess I've answered my own question ...

There's transfer on the cylinder , I cant feel it but can see it . Should clean up ok

Update 26 Feb:

Finished cleaning the cylinder up .Ready for new piston + rings .

Update 3 april:

Saws back together, on its 2nd tank . So far so good!

does it do anything when you pust the throttle? die, or just keep a steady idle

Steady idle . I've updated the post . I thought this might be a easy fix but I feel like once I rip it apart it might be an expensive one lol

If the throttle blade is opening yet it doesn't increase rpm, I don't see how that's possible.
It would be giving it more air. If the carb is completely restricted and flowing no fuel it would cause a lean stall. Unless it can only flow just enough to maintain air/fuel ratio for idle rpm. And that seems unlikely.

If it was me I would put a carburetor kit in it in case any of the diaphragms are dried out.

not to sound like an ass. but are you sure that the butterfly that you see opening isnt the choke and that the other one is moving?

I would tend to agree but throttle trigger should not move the choke plate.

I have seen spark arrestor so plugged the saw would do nothing but idle and a slight blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah when throttled but that is still some kind of throttle response.

i know that it shouldnt be moving the choke with the trigger but something isnt doing what it should...im just asking questions. we dont have any pictures to look at and nothing happens when trigger is pulled so either somethjng is connected wrong or not at all. is really the only this that makes sense in my mind.
