100% right steve, there was an earlier oil pump fust shield thingy, later ones just had a bigger worm gear i think

The holes for said worm gear are different as well. All I know is that you need to stick with the same stuff, no mixing and matching going on.

Unless I’m mistaken, Yer missing the dust ring on the smaller worm gear assembly Dan.

I traded my perfect condition 346NE for my 288...no regrets. I have a 357XP so the 346 sat around a lot. But that is very much a too each their own situation.
Yeah I don't NEED a 288 for a reason, but it sure would be cool to have a big saw to mess around with.
