Yep. Slow. Meaning I'm slow, not how fast the saw is going to cut. So, I acquired what I thought was 3x 288XP's a while ago for $100 or so each. I sold one to a friend and kept two for myself. After some brutal cleanup, I realized I had a 181SE and a 288XP (so I thought). These saws were covered in petrified tree sap.

After popping the cylinder off and taking some measurements, I learned that at some point someone had installed a 281XP piston and cylinder on the old 288. No biggie. 281 is a good runner too.

I went fishing for some parts and a couple of guys here on OPE hooked me up large. So, props to Dan @paragonbuilder and Al @drf256 for hooking me up with some parts.

I'm still in need of some parts, but hopefully I at least have what I need to make this saw a runner. So, here goes...

The upper saw in the pic....the lower is the 181.

Subbed! Looking good Dan!

Since no one has said it..........HOORAY 288!!!

Thanks buddy! I'm liking these 181/281/288 series of Husky.

Nice, make a good saw. Richard Cranium has some Husky parts...well I'll be damned!!! He really is a Husky lover too!!!
I can't confirm or deny, but he was willing to ship me some spare parts with my 44/46 hybrid. :campeon:

Simple, rugged and powerful. Not the fastest cookie cutter but that doesn’t matter when you’re working a saw. Old school torque that eats whatever you put in front of it then asks for seconds.

What are the main differences between the 1xx and 2xx series of these? Just minor stuff or completely different animal?
early 181s had a smaller fw side bearing, smaller chamber. 181s i think originally had a wire type throttle linkage, 281/288 had the big plastic arm with roller on carb linkage. Thats pretty much it.
