I would be very surprised to see a 60cc saw even ported beat a factory hot rod 80cc saw like the 500i. A ported 036 wasn’t beating the stock 572 even in small wood like this. The 036 had a very good cutting chain on it as well. For the record a ported 036 is probably one of the strongest 60cc saw when ported. I guess anything is possible though...

The only real problem the 500i has is the price vs others in the class. It’s pretty expensive. Not to mention the saw is new tech and yet to prove itself. Which should come with time. I’m curious to see how it holds up, I know I liked the performance...

You enjoy that did ya?
So you don't think a jacked up 60cc saw can hang with the stock 80cc 500? I have not ran one yet but it better be quite impressive for that kind of money.
I’ve had my 500i for a couple months. Typically the first thing I do when I get a “new to me” saw is start modifying it. The 500i is the only saw that I haven’t yet had the urge to modify. I’d be willing to bet that a ported 461 and a stock 500i would be a close contest.

Have you built a 60-65cc saw that will beat it with a short bar 20" 3/8" 0.050 for example

I haven’t directly compared but I highly doubt it. I have a pretty healthy 034super I could compare the 500 with. I would be amazed if the 034super beat it. The 500 is about 25cc bigger and runs like a raped ape right outta the box and keeps getting better the more I use it.

Possibly a really really well done older 365 special with the closed quad ports could beat a stock 500 with a short bar? But that’s at the top of 4 cube and 65cc though, as far as 60cc saws strictly? Good luck beating the 500 with one.

Ok.
A winter project might be my best shot at it. I need to run one soon and know what the benchmark is.

Whose 036 were you running? Same chain?
We all know how bias that can be if the variables are not neutralized...

I could tell it wasn't mine by the bar...
But you know how the "FAIR" Tests are conducted...
Sumthin tells me this wasn't.

So the 500 will be taking lunch moneys but
I can have two of these for the price of that or port the 2260 and make the new 500 guy cry and buy a port job. Plus you still have money for a good steak dinner and some quality beer or wine with the wifey ;-) Simple arithmetic!
I'd bet most crews end up with two new 2260's vs the one 500

There is no crying in chainsaw ego contests.
