The oiler is good enough on 461/046 with 24/28” bar which is the most I’ll run on a 70cc class stock or ported in hardwood. Hopefully the 462 oiler is as good or better.

They don’t oil as good as a 385/390/395/661, but I don’t run the long bars I do on those models with the 70cc class. The stihl brand chain makes a good difference in oiling ability imho as well. They also make a high output oiler I believe for running longer bars. I’m happy with the stock oiler performance running a 24/28 turned up to max...but if I was running a 32” or more on a regular basis, I’d upgrade the oiler.

The 044/440’s are the ones that need a bit better oiler. Longer than a 20-24 is a tad stingy.

It's a brand new 461, turned to the limiter, barely oils a 24. It's a great saw but it's got me concerned it's gonna ruin the stihl rw bar on it. Might have to do the H.O. oiler.

Sounds like something is wrong with the pump on it. Mine does a 24” good. I’d start with checking the screen or take pump out and clean it. Could be clogged/defective. Just fixed a clogged 385 oiler last month. If it ain’t spraying oil when you piss rev it at a log it’s bad.

Who needs oil?!!! Here's a bone dry 1/2" chain.
I actually gave it a spray with wd40 but should have also splashed it with bar oil. I still need to locate an oil hole on the bar to run it on Stihl saws.

And did you have to tune it right out of the box?
