Yes. I think the ground being so soft from the thaw really exposed the weak roots. Most trees just simply blew over. But many snapped too. Wind was steady and sustained for days.
Maybe natures way of expressing Darwin's theory? Lol
Thinning out the weaker trees.

Wish i could find oak like that just laying around. Theres so many folks around me that burn wood for heat that oak wouldnt last but a few days. I have been cleaning up ash thst the county cut along right of way property and I'm happy to have that.

That is impressive. I got a few questions

1) How do you load and unload?
2) What are the trailer axles rated? And does the trailer have brakes?
3) Is that a 1/2 ton suburban?!?!?!
4) How far are you going with that load?

Hahahaha answers.
1) I load with a little cub/yanmar tractor in the field and usually unload with a case 585 at home (it won't fit on the trailer) (actually unloaded this one by hand very carefully)
2) 7000lb no brakes or lights.
3) yep k1500. My truck still has the plow on it.
4) only about two miles. Otherwise I wouldn't have loaded as high and made two or three trips. But didn't have time for that stuff that day. So I went for broke.

That trailer has been through a war. It's a 4" double angle frame and some goofy odd ball axles. The hubs are 5on five and use a 1 5/8 inner bearing and 1 3/8 outter 3" tube sitting on a five pack of springs. So they are probably a little bit more stout than standard issue 3500.

Looks like a Plumb. Half hatchet, half hammer.
Very nice.

not quite as spectacular as the take that many of you get, but here is a few quick photos of Zelkova Serrata or Japanese Elm. it is considered one fo the best woods for making wooden bowls, thick (slab) tables and of course firewood. these ones were all down "south" where the climate is more moderate, and as a result the center is too soft for wood working. It is considered the 2nd vbest behind Japanese Oak for a wood burning stove in regards to density and BTU's. these three trees were surrounded by 6600 volt power lines, and houses on each side. The three trees we harvested were from 27" to 36" across and about 75' in height. My Japanese buddy and I cut them over the last three weekends.. he does the research to locate...and I do the prep felling...finding free wood here is a real task, but its worth it.1520926111711.jpg 1520932305746.jpg 1520926111711.jpg 1520932305746.jpg 1520932315489.jpg
