I have been tempted to get a 13 to try, Dad told me he had tried them but found the 15 worked better for him.
I just got the heated handles working on his 242 last night, now I need to figure out why it won't rev past 12.4K.

As for your knock, how did your piston skirts look? I have ran into a few worn intake side skirts that were still nice and smooth, but significantly thinner than the exhaust side. One 026 was so worn the piston was rocking enough at TDC to hit the squish band...
I'd run a 13" if you are not looking for reach. It spools up damn fast..

They are damn nicely balanced saws. I can't believe I have completely bypassed this chassis for so long. .

Not the MS series. The 020. Tor mentioned this awhile back in one of my threads. I need to double check which model he mentioned. Either way, that Stihl bearing is just as hard to find. Same bearing with integrated seal, just has a snap ring groove on the outer race

I know the one now. Really old top handle that looks like an iron. Well I think I have narrowed my small knock on noise maybe.. I think the piston skirt is worn, making it rock as the little end guess over on itself. I need to get the callipers on the top and bottom of the piston to see the difference. Problem is now finding a Piston that isn't totally out of spec like the meteors.

PTO bearings, there was several different versions from Husqvarna and Stihl.
Husqvarna introduced the PTO bearing back in 1978 with their 40 Practica (pre model for 44), continued with the same bearing on 44/444, 133, 234, 238, 242, 42, 246.
Husqvarna used two manufactors, #501 59 40 01, #501 59 40 02, slacker 543301 and SKF 242808, I would only buy the slacker 543301.

Stihl 020 AV & AVP used (not sure though) two different PTO bearings, # 9523 003 4330, SKF 394764 (metal) or slacker 525453 (bronze), I would only buy the SKF 394764. those I bought did not have a seal installed though.

There is a Stihl bearing, 9523 003 4430, dimension 12x32x13,5, slacker 545651, it's a mess on ebay, the easiest way to spot that bearing is the plastic materiale.

I'd never seen one until a coworker of mine showed me his. They are good little saws.

Nah, sell it. Saws may last a wile, but guns last several lifetimes. And if it's cursed, you get to go around murdering folks guilt free. Win-Win.

Always a tough spot to be in when you have a want. I think we’ve all been there and have either been happy or regretted it.

I sold my 394 to fund buying a new MS461:BangHead:
