OK we wont be running any more vids in bigger wood because the 462 went home with Cole :) and Randy shows what it can do in big wood on his vids as well.
Time for the pure numbers to see which is really faster the new 462 or the old 372

Coles cut times were faster than mine except on the 462 with play chain where there were dead even.
Avg cut time for the MS462 with play chain is 3.272
Avg cut time on the 372xp with work grind was 3.9
Avg cut time on the 372xp with play chain was 3.774
Avg cut time on the 462 with work grind was 4.03

avg over all cut time for the Stihl was 3.65
acg overall cut time for the Husky was 3.837
Stihl wins by .187

the Husky ran faster with the Work grind and the Stihl ran faster with the play chain

Interesting results Dave. Looks like mods on the 372 would even the field. Still curious how much the 462 wakes up once it’s broken in.

Seems to me the price of the new saws (462 or 572) is kind of spot on for the performance they have. A new 372 plus a port job by a pro would be $1100, pretty much the same price as the new kids IIRC. Kinda puts things in perspective for those that aren’t happy with the prices.

cant buy a 372 xp anymore though :)
I would rather run the Stihl given a choice in this pairing.

Not surprised by your preference. But what is it about the 462 that puts it over the top as far as being your choice? Weight? Balance? Power? All of the above?

Just curious as to what “felt right” too you. If you already broke it down somewhere in his thread and I missed it I apologize, got lost in the drama...lol!

It has to be the vanilla ice cream!

Well of course! Lol!

Weight amd balance are fantastic and i am betting it will be a screamer for racing with the mtronica removed

Thanks Dave. It’s nice to hear actual handling impressions vs the specification arguments that have surrounded these new saws since they debuted.

All the discussions and strong debate on these new saws vs each other & the models they replaced & performance wise it comes down to under a fifth of a second in a 4 second cut! We're an interesting bunch aren't we.
