My Doc Al @drf256 , souped up, MOFO, super light saber, lazer blade of an 044/046 hybrid arrived yesterday. :D:):ARMS1:

I've been grinning from ear to ear ever since. What a special saw this thing is. Can't thank Al enough for taking this project on.

Nice!
Now you need to put it down and finish the Mo-Olive-Fo 026.

Got my care package from @Cobby08 yesterday and suited up the 044/046 hybrid from Al for tomorrow's continued tree job. We have the but of a good sized maple to cut up firewood length so we can haul all of the wood out (Greg doesn't have a log truck... yet!) Hoping to get a tank or two through her!

Got a tank through her today and she rips. Running 8 pin with 28" light bar and RS chain full comp.

Ate the big maple but nice. She was 4 cycling here and there in the cut so I may turn her up a little more once more break in time. Love it... Didn't get a chance to tach it but probably mid 14 or so is my guess. She will want to turn more

Saw is a light weight powerhouse. One of the smoothest stihls I've run. I think Als theory of the 272 slug being lighter and less vibes is confirmed. I've run mustang Mike's CFB hybrid and this saw is likely smoother. We can have a lot of fun comparing at the upcoming GTGs.

Here's a pic of her hanging out with her husky friends the twin 372 xtorqs, the 385 hacked up saw, and the Mason muffler modded 262 creampuff that came from CT shore Craig's list find. Great lineup. The twin 346s are in the shed behind these saws. Also she took a ride on the bucket truck home today with her husky friends.

Awesome saw. A huge thank you to Al for building it for me! I'm psyched.

Not yet Mike. And hopefully you won't get any issues. But when you do, they will be catastrophic. The chinese just cut costs at every corner. Metal in the bearings are not good steel and not heat treated the same as more expensive bearings.
The lists just go on and on. They build and make disposable products. Simple as that.

I wonder if the smoothness of it has to do with the lighter piston. Back when I was building 046/066s, I could lessen the vibration (or at least change the "frequency" of the vibration) by changing the weight of the piston; which is a big help when a person has a touch of arthritis.

Yup -- that is the thought. The husky 272 piston made by meteor is lighter than a 460 stihl oem piston. Al had to trim to fit. Saw felt super smooth today.

Closer to be balanced. If you want it smooth as possible just balance your rotating assembly. Not sure of the power gain, but it should result in the least amount of vibes
True, but the factory did some balancing already.

Why not forego the expense and time and just try to approximate the weight of the slug the factory intended to be used with that crank?

FWIW, the factory 272 Meteor is around the same weight as the OEM 046 piston. The machine work lightens it down to 044 OeM slug specs.

To me a 362 or 365 with a 372 or 372 XPW top end is essentially a hybrid, same as a 6401/6421 to 7910. It's not how they came.from the factory, if not what classifies a saw a hybrid?
Has anyone made a reverse hybrid?

I'm just thinking how well a 365 husky runs and stuff.
