Was given this little 50 yesterday, needs a new 44mm piston, under the grime and faded plastics it doesn't look too bad, it will make a nice little camping saw.
I dont think its ever been cleaned b420190106_163000.jpg 20190106_163034.jpg 20190106_163417.jpg

Anyone know if the lifetime warranty on the 394 coils is still in effect? I've heard different stories with the most prevalent being that "lifetime" now means up to seven years after the last date of manufacture of a given model regardless of the individual saws's actual date of manufacture.

I've been wondering if I should use bar plates on my 272, I see they sell them and mine don't have them. They should prevent wear on the case and clutch cover right?

It'll gouge right through a bar plate too if you run your chain that loose.

I am looking to buy a saw to mill with. My friend has a 395xp for sale he’s asking $500 for. When he brought the saw to show me it was leaking fuel out of the exhaust. So automatically I’m thinking carb rebuild or replace. Also the pull cord sometimes doesn’t grab.
It’s a 2011 build date and I was told the saw was rebuilt 4-5 years ago.
I’ve always run stihl saws so huskies seem foreign to me. Do you think these issues are a big deal? The saw did fire up and run fine, just seemed flooded.
Is this a good deal given the condition?

Thanks for any help.
Matt

4-500 for a nice one locally
Pics would help
Cake saws to work on.
I'd do new line's and a carb kit.
Was it rebuilt with oem parts?
Comp test and a look at the piston is something i try to do when possible.

I don’t have access to a comp tester.
Guess I could pic one up.
I was told all oem parts but who really knows it was from the previous owners word.
I’ll try to get some pics and pull the muffler tomorrow or Friday.

I guess it would be nice to try to find some markings on the cylinder. A oem cylinder would be the most important to me. Not sure where the cylinder would be marked or if you could see markings w/out some dissembling. You could do a hillbilly compression test, hold pull start handle and see if the saw can hold itself up.

That’s a good idea. What thread size does it need? I would like to pick one up to keep though. Is there a certain one you recommend?

What saws use the same carb as a husky 268? Is it just the 61,268 and 272? Working on a 268 and the carb is flooding the saw. I pulled apart twice blew it out and changed needle, metering lever and spring. Still flooding out, anybody have some ideas or just buy new carb?

Thanks I don’t want to trust an aftermarket carb on a guy from works saw.
I bought 2 bad am carbs for my 266 and 268
Don't usually have a problem
Have 10-12 am 372 carbs no issue's.
But that tilly is a great deal usually 50.00 and up
