IT IS STRONG!!!

I did a video today, but unfortunately I'm unable to post it. When I transfer it to my computer it says "format we don't support". Don't know what the heck is going on, but seems to happen recently if I don't have the phone horizontal (instead of vertical).

Anyway, the saw has less than 1/2 tank of fuel through it, but I decided to give it a test. With an 8 pin rim and 24" B&C I put it in some Hickory. It made the cut about 14% faster than my strongest running ported 77 cc saws, and they run very well.

For a Chinese kit I put togher, with the Cross MMWS P&C (w/o any addl port work), I'm very impressed, and it should get even stronger as I run it more.

It kicked on the 2nd or 3rd pull with the dcomp pressed (choke on), and started 2 pulls later (choke off).

Also, as mentioned above, when it was warm it re started with one pull NOT using the decomp. Just took up the slack, and pulled hard.

I think I'm gonna like this saw!

I will try to get a video I can post, this is very frustrating!

Fun for me is not worrying about the BS, so I won't .

Scotchbrite is technically sanding also, just another form of abrasive. Heck, some people may even power it up and make it even more effective than hand sliding a cylinder on sand paper.

I got more important things to do than worry about this.

I'll still post about it.

Personally I do not believe you were trying to "skirt" the rules by just cleaning the base this is just surface prep, I'm not the judge though either, you have my blessing to run in class one for what that's worth. Keep having fun I say, not much sense in this if ya can't.

OK, I got the video to play on the computer, the problem is I don't have an editor, and the guy started with the phone vertical, then changed it to horizontal. So when I play it, I'm sideways!

I may just have him take another one, the saw sounds mean and cuts nice!

I modded the baffle, but did not remove it, and triple ported the muff (all on the same side). Two holes in the body, and left the cover as it came. It breathes better w/o sounding obnoxious.

OK, here is the video, I apologize in advance that I am sideways, but w/o an editor I can't fix it.

It is running an 8 pin on a 24" bar in Pig Nut Hickory, and IMO is very healthy. Hickory slows my saws like no other wood.

These cuts are easily faster than my ported 460s and Hybrid, and since this saw is not even broken in yet (less than 1/2 tank) and has no addl port work done to it (it is a Cross MMWS P&C), I'm impressed.

Looks and sounds great.
No vid problem on a phone viewing it.
Nice saw.

Nice Mike. Strong. Can you do a comparison with one of the other saws you mentioned, same bar and chain in same wood please?

Jeff, I pulled the B&C off the 044 and did not even re sharpen it, but it was still good. More than 25% faster than my 044 in that Hickory, and about 15% faster than my Dr Al 460 and CFB Hybrid (both with the carbs that improved their performance, or the difference would have been greater).

My chains are pretty consistent Jeff, the big difference is the 660 is running 8 pin instead of 7, but you can push it at least as hard as the other saws. You would have to be "gentile" with 8 pin in Hickory on the other saws.

Ahhh. 660 like a 454 big block. No substitute for displacement. Lol
Thanks Mike. You did a great job with the saw and this thread. [emoji106]
Look forward to running it at the next GTG.
That MMWS top end seems to be a great option for some guys.

That's a pretty steep hill you're logging on.

The saw still has high compression, but is definitely loosening up a bit. I started it cold today w/o the decomp, had to noodle some rounds.

Kicked on second pull, started on 2 more.

I also backed off the oiler a bit. I had turned it all the way up, now it is in the middle, and still oils very well. If I put a long bar on it, I'll crank it up again.

Also got to show it off to two guys that work at the local Stihl store (when I delivered wood to one of them). They just could not believe it. I started it up and the mechanic says "that muffler is not stock" ... I assured him it was definitely not stock!

So far, I'm having some fun with this thing!

Milling Hickory with the Flying Tiger!!! Milled the first Hickory log with the Flying Tiger, and she is still running strong. Made 4 - 2.25" thick boards, plus the sides. Used almost 2 tanks of fuel (she is thirsty) and 2 B&C ... that dead Hickory just dulls things real fast.

But she did it, and she is still running strong so I figure she paid for herself already!

Also made a ton of sawdust, which mostly collected on the peeled bark!

Also finally got a halfway decent pic of my muff mod. The main hole is opened up a lot, the slot has also been turned into a second port, and I left the cover hole the way it came. The baffle also has a 1/2"+ hole straight away.

She is louder than stock, but a lot more mild than some I have heard. I kinda like it like that. Also like that all the ports face down when I'm milling with it.

This saw continues to have notably more compression than my 2-066s. I believe it is due to the lower exhaust port (at 105).

Did some more milling with the Flying Tiger today, and she did just fine. After making a flat edge with my MMWS 066 (Timberjig Attached) I made 4 more 2+1/4" thick 7.5' long Hickory boards today (up to 16" wide) with the Tiger.

The cuts don't take that long, but she needs to be refueled after every 2 cuts. She is not bone dry empty, but does not have enough for a 3rd cut. This is dead, dry, Pig Nut Hickory, really tough stuff, so I'm really pleased how she went through it.

I also leaned the saw out a bit today, I had purposely left it a bit rich for break in. Now my HL Supply Tach was showing 13,680 several times. Don't want it any leaner than that for milling!

Also discovered that the Timber Jack is an excellent tool for removing the bark before you even get started. Just put that point between the bark and the wood and work it length wise, and it really gets you started. That Hickory bark is tough as nails, figured no use milling it! Besides, when you peel it, it catches the saw dust and gives you a smooth surface to kneel on while milling!
