Dad and I put a lot of Hedge, Oak and Locust with a 039 and Husky 55... they did from 8-15 cords/year until a MS660 and 346xp got added to the fleet 12 years later and then died a few years later in a truck fire. I don't like the 391, but I'd have another 039 as a backup in a heartbeat.

Depends greatly on the size of the wood. Firewood in Upper Michigan usually means Red Oak,Maple and Yellow Birch in the 8"-20" range. The lower end of the range a 50cc saw works well and the upper end a 70cc saw works well. A 60cc is a great compromise. I use a MS260 and. 562XP. Also have cut a ton with a 372xp/xpg and a 346 xp/xpg.
Many guys that cut alot of firewood use a 390 xp or a ms660 with a 16" bar and a 8 pin sprocket. I have done this too, but it wears me out faster.

Lately testing and tuning on saws in for repairs, has cut up a bit of firewood for me.

We don't have a lot of tall trees, (compared to the PNW, East coast or Michigan) but I got a call the other day from my wife indicating that a neighbor had lost an Oak tree that's about 50' tall and better than 2' DBH... That ought to be a good bit of firewood...

I use a 346 for dropping and limbing in the woods, and a 55 in the yard for bucking. Since I am slightly "age challenged" and have my own woodlot, I cut mostly trees in the 50cc range. The 346 is sure appreciated after cutting all day.

That's a cool avatar pic. Do you have it in full size so we could see more detail?

What is your pick for the wood you cut ?

Stihl 440 gets my chores done .
A Stihl 028 Super 16" bar(pulls a 20" very well) I inherited, and a Makita 6421 20" bar I bought as a used rental from Home Depot. The Makita is a little more used now:)

I've heard 3 different stories about the "moose". 1- it was photo shopped. 2- it was a life size mount dressed in harness. 3- it was an actual live moose that was reared from a calf, and neutered to eliminate the aggressive nature they are well noted for. When rutting season takes place in the fall they can be very nasty tempered. Neutering took care of that, and supposedly the feller in the pic actually used him for skidding logs. I like the 3rd story better!;)
