I think the 026 is a better firewood saw than the dolmar 421 imo. Same weight and much more power. Pull a 16" 3/8. Can be had used for much cheaper as well. Mint ones go for 200$. My 024av with a four hole 026 muffler and advanced timing cuts like a 50cc saw.

If they had better AV I would still have one. I do have a 024 super that will get a 026 top end sometime. Lol

They do vibrate more than say a husky 346xp. I grab the 346xp most of the time but the 024/026 series saws do have character, I like them.

I don't have much time on an 026. I've run a 260 a decent amount, but not tons. I'd love to try one side by side with my 421.

One thing I REALLY like about the 421 is the easy start feature. For firewood duty,i think you're right, an 026 with a 3/8 16" bar would be pretty slick. For limbing and thinning, though being able to pick up the saw and literally do nothing other than lightly tug the rope is awesome. I know it's not a good habit, but sometimes i pick it up and start it just for fun. I'm sure I'll get over it eventually, but for now, it always makes me grin.

Ya it is crazy how easy they start. The 6100 starts as easy as the 421. It definitely skews your point of view when you go to start another saw. Not just the pull being harder but having to pull more then one or two times.

Yeah, and having to turn the switch back to "on". What a hassle! ;)

Starting a jonsered 930 super with no decomp is interesting. No sissy pulls.

I use a husqy 440 and a poulan timber master. Got a 10-10 mac with a 28 for bigger stuff. Got a lil Hitachi top handle for light werk. Friend give me a Mac 7-10a last night 70.5cc. I'm itching to get it running and see how the old girl cuts. Got huge bow blade and chain on it now but looking for a 32 bar after I get it fixed.

Try a Dolmar 166 or even worse yet, a 101B with no decompression valve. You just get used to a technique and learn to commit when starting them. I find drop starts work best.

I found my 166 extremely easy to start with no decomp :/ in fact most of the old dolmars are easy starters. Except when you dial the timing in to far advanced in the old points 144 :)

The worst for me has been the 084.

As for firewood saws. Combo of 3 myself.

Stihl 041 for the dirty stuff
Dolmar 120si for clean
Dolmar 144 for 25"+

Really like being able to park the old saws ontop of a log and relax while cutting :)

I have a 394xp that's easy to pull over as well. I think it has to do with the starter recoil housing assembly size ect. I think the bigger the recoil the less force it takes to pull over or something.
