Are you running a grinder or hand filing? I run the same chain setup for everything I cut (Ash included). On my Oregon 620 grinder, I do 25 degree top plate angle, 55 tilt, and I usually don’t use the chain holder offset.EAB has killed off all the ash in the mid west and we have a plethora to cut. What are you running for angles on your cutters that makes the chain last.
On semi-chisel I do 30 degree top plate and 60 degrees on the tilt.Couldn’t really tell the difference between dead and green as I didn’t get into cutting wood to the point I could tell what species I was cutting till after all them ash died off. Now they are really easy to spot.
I have both round and square grinder and I hand file too. I’ve run a 30,60,90 for most chisel chain and some get the 10 degree offset on the vice. Semi chisel is 30 75 90. Less hook. Works for 3/8 but my .325 looks almost vertical on the cutter even though it’s 75 down angle. So that’s why my 325 I usually hand file with a grandberg jig.
New X-cut chain is fast out of the box, maybe try a loop and see if you can mimic the profile?EAB has killed off all the ash in the mid west and we have a plethora to cut. What are you running for angles on your cutters that makes the chain last.
