The early 044s mostly used Zama carbs w/o a snorkel. Numerous carbs were used on both saws, some had the .070 jet instead of .068.

Most of the early 044s had C3M carbs. I don't know why the HD-11 is not listed, they had .070 jets and were used on the heated handle saws.

HD 11s are NLA, but I recently picked up a couple of HD-14Cs on ebay. They do not have limiters, and I believe they are also .070 jet.

Although they physically interchange, many of the 044/440 carbs (and AM carbs) have a smaller venture than the true 046/460 carbs.

I opened up the venture with a grinder on an Asian carb that was on a Asian 440 big bore and it helped a little. I also learned that you don't grind that feed tube that goes into the venture. Part of the reason I like playing with the Asian stuff is that your mistakes are not nearly as costly!

$20 is a lot less than $80!

i wish i still had all of the carbs that came on all of the carcases but they went with the running saws when he got rid of them. I would like to get a hd 14 or an hd 8. i think i know where the one i have is i just need to look tomorrow. thank you for the info. i was noticing that the 044 cases i have are almost an inch narrower than the 46 cases yet i think that they take the same tank not sure how though

That's neat I will have to save it.

I wonder if the other 046/460 carbs listed other then the HD16, were used in other countries or something, I've never seen anything but a HD16 on the ones I have. I have a few early 046's they all have the HD16 on them. Who knows.

I had an early 046 that had an HD-8 on it. I ended up moving it along because the jug (originally a D jug) had been replaced by a 460 cylinder.

Wish I had saved that carb, I hear they may have had different internal channels.

I've got a few of the early 044 Zama carbs w/o the snorkel. Some are labeled Japan, some Hong Kong.

I believe the one on my beloved 044 is Hong Kong. I did rebuild it once years ago.

That is an early saw, does it have a factory dp muff cover? Those are the only true "Magnum" saws. (Both 046 and 066).

When the EPA banned the dp muff covers, Stihl realized the "Magnum" name sold saws, so they started putting it on everything (w/o any performance enhancements).

Do you guys have a phone # for Walbro?

I searched, and got an email address for questions, but did not get any response.

Although they list an AZ address, the only 2 phone #s were foreign.
