I was able to fix the top cover threads in the saw I recently bought. The two rear holes were egg shaped and wallowed out. I had intended to use a m5 time sert but sadly, the threading part of that time sert barely caught any material to thread.
Plan B - I bought EZ-LOK steel inserts in M5 - .08. They’re around $3 each online. I was able to use a 5/16-18 tap and there was still enough material to hold them securely. They just screw in with a slotted screw driver
I wire wheeled the red loctite off and installed them with jb weld for good measure.
They seem to be holding. I torqued the screws down tight.
The third, front hole had a broken boot have way stuck in. I was about to use some Colbolt drills and an easy out to remove the bolt. Threads looked good. Got lucky on that one.
