I was able to fix the top cover threads in the saw I recently bought. The two rear holes were egg shaped and wallowed out. I had intended to use a m5 time sert but sadly, the threading part of that time sert barely caught any material to thread.

Plan B - I bought EZ-LOK steel inserts in M5 - .08. They’re around $3 each online. I was able to use a 5/16-18 tap and there was still enough material to hold them securely. They just screw in with a slotted screw driver

I wire wheeled the red loctite off and installed them with jb weld for good measure.

They seem to be holding. I torqued the screws down tight.

The third, front hole had a broken boot have way stuck in. I was about to use some Colbolt drills and an easy out to remove the bolt. Threads looked good. Got lucky on that one. 1DAAADF0-0A23-4A01-87F6-7A9A0E356D0E.jpeg551F0B71-DC5C-4725-B271-3866F5F84CD4.jpeg04428122-8A9F-4A7A-9AE1-620948EC0A6F.jpeg5735E547-E467-4A7F-82F0-9F758097673F.jpeg013EC819-DD7F-45A3-A533-EF874A91DC6B.jpeg

You got a link where to buy them. My 181 has a stripped hole for top cover and 353 has a stripped fellimg dog hole.

The only thing is that you need to set the depth otherwise the insert will go too deep. At least in my situation here. The time serts have a nice shoulder so they can’t go in too deeply
Do you by any chance know if that link you posted is the same size screws for a husky 288 top cover? I have three egg shaped holes in mine. Bought new screws but that’s as far as I’ve gotten

I did a quick search and the parts numbers are different. There are so many Husqvarna screws, threads, head style....mind boggling.
Are they 6mm or 5mm? I saw 6mm ones too.

However, I’m no expert.

288 has a 5mm bolt, the ones posted should work well with that model also, I generally try to tap the holes to 6mm and try top cover screws from a 390 first, if that fails I would definitely try this.

Thanks. Mine are likely beyond 1 mm out.
